   Someone mentioned that St. Augustine was an illigitimate father, but he was still made into a Saint.  What ar the criteria to be made into a Saint when one dies and can it be revolked?

      Apparently, Hinduism is an even bigger saint maker . There is no formal process as in Catholicism. Anyone displaying "saintly" qualities is anointed a saint!

         I went to that site and it seems they changed the rules in 1983 t be canonized.  This is interesting becasue the Catolic Church claims that nothig has changed   Does the canonization apprear in the Bible, which is where everything is supposed to originate from?
         
         Mohit, tell me more of the Hindu way of Saints.  Do you have a list of them or just a partial one and the lives they had to get Saintly?

            We have thousands of  saints in Hindu philosophy..Many were kings who gained enlightenment and many were poor ascetics.Hinduism understands the divinity in all humans and that a person wakes to his god self  -awakening or enlightenment.We understand many have attained enlightenment and many will .
            The higher saints or avatars and maha avtars are considered reincarnations of Vishnu or Shiva.

      Valamiki wrote the Ramayana.He was dacoit and bandit who transformed into a saint.The main criteria is enlightenment.
      The Vatican requires proof of two miracles for sainthood.

   Catholicism is the big saint maker. There are approx. 10,500 Catholic Saints.
   
   They don't create Saints, rather, they say the recognise the sainthood already existing.
   
   First, there is an investigation into the potential saint's life and works. Reports are written, and sent to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in the Vatican. That leads to a person being "venerable". After further pondering, and a miracle proved, the person is beatified.
   
   After more pondering, a person may be Canonised - that it, created a Saint - by the Pope.

   So being in line with the miracles, what miracles did St. Augustine perforn to rid himself of being a father to an illiegitamate son?  I mean this guy on one of my hubs really gave this Saint a bad rap for it. 
   What constitues a miracle?  Whose definition of miracle is used and how long does it take to reach Sainthood?

      Augustine perforn to rid himself of being a father to an illiegitamate son?
      You can change an atheist can become a saint and so can a killer or bad person.
      Miracle is something possible only by divine intervention-beyond our grasp or the grasp of science.It takes years but the present Pope Benedict XVI is hastening this procedure.

         Yes, I  believe this too.  I believe everyone has a job to do here weather it be killer or what have you and all has the chance and choices to be something different by learning.  This person really contradicted himself and made hismself  look uneducated because of his anger.  I really don't know why I pose a threat to him.  Anyway, I watched a movie last nght about the life of Buddah and he alo had a son and wife and left them to attain enlightenment only he was trapped into marrying.  It was a bit boring but educational.
         The one person that I can't see ever being a saint or anything more than what he is is Charles Manson...............

            True the Buddha also left his family as he had a higher call in life.
            Valmiki was a dacoit, a murderer and thief.He chances upon the sage Narda who asks him what does he think he is doing to which he says I do It for my wife,my family.Narda tells him suppose you were to be judged would your wife take half of the punishment on herself.To this he says off course she will.
            Narda asks him to go home and ask his wife to which she replies that is your job and not mine.
            This is when he realizes that we are in a very selfish world and leaves everything.He then goes deep into mediation and writes the classic Ramayana .
            Every human has god in them so everyone is a potential saint.
            Like Guru Nanak says"all are saints or to be saints"

            All saints are generally peaceful but can get very angry as well.One famous saint was Shiva who was known for his temper.He was always or mostly smoking weed or pot and was known to be aloof.What no one wanted to do was disturb him while he was meditating as he would then get crazy-go totally mad.
