    I got on the internet, finally! As in one that works, is stable and is sooooooooper fast. I had it before but it was so bad it was laughable. Don't use T-Mobile UK hubbers hmm

    Thanks to everyone that recommended a service provider when I asked a week or so back. I went with Virgin, their fiber optic version. smile

    The only thing I didn't like about it was discovering how much the engineers get paid for installing it. I need to write a letter to Richard Branson ... he doesn't pay too good sad

      Well done for you....shrugs for me because my internet provider has had quite a bit of down time lately and there is no other options as we can't get BT internet or Virgin fibre optic broadband, we have to make do with Karoo which is our localized version of average broadband capabilities!

    Lol I hope so. It's been difficult, the last few months, trying to do anything related to being online. Often I've resorted to working through the night, as it's not disconnected as much - though it remained ever slow. Of course it's had it's decent moments but on the whole, I would not recommend a T-Mobile dongle.

    And then there's the restrictions I've also had to deal with, due to all the downloads I'm supposed to have done. As in I haven't - but each month my access has been restricted, thus making it an even worse service provision than it already was.

      Glad to hear you got good service now. I'm paying for two, high speed cable and wireless you can get anywhere. The wireless is what I'm using now on my Vermont vacation, Sprint.

      Hopefully you'll make more money now. smile

    Thank you both. I'm happy so far. TBH I'd have been happy with a stable connection, as much as I hated the speed. Oh and none of that restriction nonsense either. I don't do downloads. Have no reason.

    I remember waynet saying he couldn't get the fiber optic version where he's from, which is a shame, because it's incredibly fast.

    Do you have any idea as to when they're going to improve Wayne? The engineer said that there's a marketing scrap going on twixt Virgin and BT. Virgin have the fiber monopoly in the UK, due to buying out NTL a few years back. BT have started installing their own fiber optic service but they're woefully behind. And they know they're losing out to Virgin.

    Ergo - the faster they pull their finger out the better. On top of that, Virgin doesn't have full UK coverage and they're plugging the gaps. They have some here, in my town. They've a couple of spots to connect up but they're on with it from what I can tell. Basically they're trying to can the cream before BT get their hands in the churn.

    Maybe you'll benefit from that?

      I hope something will change soon as it's doing my head in..... need to have my daily internet fix and of course Hubpages.....but when there's downtime about, all I have to do is my drawing offline (Which isn't all bad news!) and that's back to the old school days before the internet!

        I totally sympathise Wayne. I've hated my last few months internet issue. My daughter likes to read online, she loves some kind of Japanese comic stuff, and she couldn't access it at all. It's been a nightmare most of the time.

        Were I you, I'd ring Virgin up and ask. Tell them just how much you want the service and that you'd definitely sign up as soon as they ship in. I got a little insight into how hard they push for new custom - and trust me ... they want yours smile

          Hey you just gave me an idea, I could pretend to be 1000 different people all wanting Virgin fibre optic broadband and then they just might do it for our area!!! Cheers now, off to write my multi personality pleas for this broadband service!

            Not a bad idea. I meant it about the desperation though. For instance the engineers? They get a set amount of calls to attend. Six. 'X' amount of engineers have a team leader figure, who's in situ, probably in a cupboard smile

            The team leader organises the engineers, sends them out. If every engineer completes his six installs, the team leader bags a £100 bonus, per day. If one single job isn't installed - could be because the new subscriber is out, changed they're mind, whatever - then they don't get the £100.

            The team leader, given a heads up, will do his utmost to make sure the installs are completed, to meet his bonus targets. Plus, if the engineers meet their six, they get a little bonus too, think it was £10.

            So go, hit 'em up smile

              I hate bonused based targets for offline jobs. Working for a double glazing firm years ago us fitters got bonuses based on how many windows we could fit in a days work....I was knackered. Glad I don't do that job anymore.

              But the incentive is on them to get us Fibre optic broadband over here...so on with creating some bonuses for them and get me my broadband!

    There's nothing like good service, and this is nothing like good service.

    However, I'm very glad you've solved the problem. Internet bips, slips, clogs and bogs are nightmarish when we're actually trying to earn a quid. Even worse when you're just playing!

      So true Daniel. It's not just for me though, as Simoes is likely to be starting his MBA in mid January and he will need a reliable connection. Then there's my daughter, she's an avid online reader as well as a very diligent student. She uses the internet for homework purposes so I'm sure glad we've got it sorted smile

    Yup - I don't like bonus related wages either. The engineers get a tenner a job. Thing is, some of them ain't easy. If they have a call like ours, it's straightforward. In, plug the black box in, tweak the signal and fire it up, that's about it. However, often they have to drill through a house wall, laying down the connection to the fiber optic infrastructure, which is a difficult job in some cases. They're contracted to work a until the jobs are completed. If that means out 'til 9pm, so be it - but they don't receive over time. Conversely, if all the installs are easy ones and they're done by 1pm - they're not allowed to get off early, you know, TOIL hours. Basically they make about £60 a day.

    I wouldn't work for Richard Branson. His staff are treat like monkeys hmm

      Richard Branson looks like a monkey, but is a rich monkey...I wouldn't work for him either, cos he'll be counting all his millions whilst he gets low paid workers in to do the hard work while he drinks tea and raises his little finger whilst taking a sip of tea!
