      Interesting topic. Until relatively recently, the U.S. was the only nation capable of moon missions, but things have changed. In the past few years, Japan, India and China have launched moon missions to explore and evaluate it, to what end?
      
      The Chinese research includes looking for H3 deposits. H3 would be used to power lunar fusion reactors which in turn would allow for permanent lunar settlements.
      
      So in 1967 everyone agreed to "share" the moon i.e. to prevent the U.S. from claiming it. Now, things are different.
      
      My guess is that actual moon ownership will be determined by generals instead of lawyers, and possession will probably be 9 points of the law.
      
      Treaties are broken on earth all the time, why would the moon be different?

         There is a definite answer.  No one.
         
         It was here before we arrived and will still be here when we are gone.  Everything is temporary.  No one can "Own" the Moon, the Sun, the Stars, the Earth or anything else in space.  What we believe we own on earth is temporary as well and more often than not, meaningless.    Are the American Indians the only people who understood this?

   I have heard that you can actually buy acreage in the moon. The person who decided to sell deeds to moon claims has actually made enough money that I wondered if it could happen that I started selling deeds to Mars! It is a very weird thing but I have seen shows about how the guy did this and that it might be possible that the deeds would have to be respected

            I had this teacher who used to tell me I could sell her the Brooklyn Bridge all the time! She was my typing teacher and word processing teacher and strangely was one of the funniest teachers I had. When my friend Monty and I figured out why half the computers in the room where not working for a mail merge (two commands needed swapping and it worked) she told us we need not worry about our grades and once bought one of my self published Zines for $20 and would not take her change! Suggested price of $3 but whatever you felt it was worth was my pricing structure

    There's some guy in Nevada named Hope who claimed ownership of the Moon with the UN and has made a good chunk of change selling deeds to property there. 
    
    Interesting question and this would probably make a good hub. I think that many entities would like to claim ownership of the moon but just as it happened here in the US, those that eventually colonize the moon will claim ownership. 
    
    Personally, I think its going to be all those oppressed millionaires and billionaires that claim they're being taxed too heavily that will leave this world and colonize the moon and start their own New World Order. They'll all become trillionaires too because the Moon's soil is rich with Helium-3, a clean renewable energy source which we will definitely need here on Earth at some point.

    My best guess....Nike...we ran out of American assets  in the 90s...so...our massive loans are probably being backed by moon property.  America can't pay...so...therefore...the moon will be re-possessed and turned into massive sweat shop real estate.
    
    Someday....we will look up and see a big ass Nike check mark on the moon.

       I am certain that, when the resources become important, whatever you have that "proves" who owns it will go bye-bye, and the country/alliance with the most aggressive, offensive satellite and spacecraft program will be the ones actually harvesting the stuff up there.  Our species has been going after resources in that fashion since before we actually were the species we currently are.

    I own it I have the paperwork right in front of me, and for a very small price, say 59.95 I will subdivide it into equal parcels of one acre each, thereby allowing plenty of room for profit when you decide to sell.

    Like all spoils it will go to the victors.  Anyone who sets up a working trasport system there and back will control it and so to all intents and purposes - own it.  The Chinese are pushing ahead with their space missions it says in the paper here, my guess is that the first 'base' will be Chinese - and they can afford to do it and keep it I would think.
