Given the relentless tireless and ludicrously one sided attacks on Barack Obama from the right wing media and how he's responsible for everything that's wrong with the US (including plane crashes, typhoons, broken washing machines, stale bread and cold coffee)and especially the economy....

    A thought struck me.

The Sub Prime Mortgage collapse and the whole robo signatures farce (where mortgage providers where signing blank forms in order to push loans through to people who clearly couldn't afford to take out such a mortgage)finally caved in during the fall of 2008.

Obama was elected to office in November 2008. Now it seems the whole SubPrime debacle played a major part in hammering the economy. Banks, financial Profiteers and Mortgage suppliers were falling over themselves to sell the whole SubPrime market to anyone who believed the hype. It was a short term opportunity for a few shysters to make a lot of money at the expense of a lot of people.

So how is it that Obama is getting the blame for things that happened before he took office? Did he personally cause the ruin of Fanny and Freddie? It couldn't have been his policies as he wasn't in government at the time of the collapse.

So have I missed something or do people just hate the president for another reason?

It would be good if the actual question I've posed could be answered without anyone referring to post Obama policies (where I accept he's failed on several fronts albeit with some deliberate obstacles put in his way).

The way it looks to me is that somebody got shot before Obama was given the gun to hold.

He didn't even know Obama was a Senator.

But that is understandable, he never did anything other than vote present most of the time.

"It couldn't have been his policies as he wasn't in government at the time of the collapse."

Yes he was, he was a Senator.

He isn't responsible for the mortgage crisis and I don't think anybody said he was.

Years and years of of liberal feel good policies are to blame for the mortgage crisis.

Lenders didn't seek out people to loan money to, people came to them.

Big government policies made sure they got the loan that they could never in a million years have received without the policies in effect.

Then when a report came in about Fannie mae and Freddie mac the democrats blocked investigations into it saying there was no problem.

Democrat rule #1 Lie and see what happens.

Actually, we were doing rather well until one of your heroes started a war.

The mess wasn't really caused by the mortgages per se.  The mess was caused by greedy bankers packaging that junk up to sell to greedy and naive investors.   The need for more junk to package had a part in that, too and the ease of borrowing attracted investors who just made it all worse.

The original idea was that if banks wanted to take the money of the poor, they ought to be willig to lend to them.  If that had been the end of it, there never would have been a mortgage crisis at all even if housing did fall as it did.   Greed caused all this.

            Rule #1 in affect.

We all know who is responsible for the mortgage crisis and it wasn't war or greed.

Keep trying though, maybe in 2012 someone will buy it.

*Edit* Maybe you're right, democrats greedy to buy votes with government handouts probably did more to cause this than anything else.

It would be so much easier if you people gave the real reason you can't cope with Obama.
