Update on Johnny:

Johnny has early ileum. Apparently, because of his bronchitis and COPD, his intestines did not get enough oxygen and they partially shut down. The bronchitis also triggered the atrial flutter. He's doing better and is now on a liquid diet, so at least he won't starve. He's not in as much pain, either, and might get to leave ICU this weekend. Then he'll have to go to the coumadin clinic periodically for his heart condition and stay on meds for 30 days. If his heart is not back in normal rhythm at that point, they'll use the paddles on him.

I want all of you to know that your messages have been very uplifting for me!

Thankyou for the update Habee. I'm sure you must be feeling pretty wrung out. I remain hopeful for your husband and you. All being well, you'll be home together in the very near future. My best wishes for his speedy recovery ... and that your nerves don't fray too badly

    (Ileus?  Or Ileitis?)

I'm glad the medical team connected the dots, and showed how this cascade of issues are related.  That had to have boosted your confidence in the team a bit.

I hope the pain continues to subside, and Johnny graduates from ICU.  Then hopefully everything else will continue to sort out.

It's called "early ileus." I've been reading about it online.

      Again, warm thanks to everyone!

    Oh Habee,
What a relief to at least know what caused it! I know he still has a ways to go, but at least you know where the road leads now.

Thanks for keeping us all posted.
Please take care of YOU! I know you must be (dog) tired, so how about getting yourself a nice, relaxing massage?

    xoxo, MM

Holle - it must be a great relief to all of you to be out of ICU, a very scary place. I hope that Johnny is on the mend and that you can both take time to sit back and enjoy life with full appreciation. Sometimes it takes a real scare to remind you how beautiful your life really is. God Bless you and your family.
