Would you give your real name?

   Okay .. I have another question   I just received an email from someone through HP (not sure if the person is a hubber or not) asking for my real name because the person said he/she was gonna use my hub for a report for class.  Should I be suspicious of this?  Would you give the person your real name?  Thanks!

      Anolinde. I definitely would be very cautious on that one. I am still waiting for the money I won in a lottery in Nigeria and I have not seen a penny yet ! But my name is really Tony so I guess the words out.

      What is there in the name. He/she can present the report with the nickname itself. Be cautious about this type of mails.

      I publish under my own name. I'm really called Jeff, which was vaguely disappointing to me all through my youth, but I've gotten used to it.
      
      Meh. Your name isn't a big deal. Don't give out your address or phone number, though.

   lets face it- should you give the person a name- who is to know it is real- take the first name of the cashier at your market and the surname of the guy serving in mc donalds and you have a name!
   the student probably wants to cite a reference- but if they are using a referncing system they surely only need to cite the hyperlink of the article and the date that they accessed it. ( thats what i have done when harvard referencing in academic work)

   Some people are really paranoid about using their real name online.
   I don't really care and use my real name all over the place including here. To each their own. If it bothers you then either make up a name or possibly use first initial and last name.

   You could simply say that you do not give out personal information from unsolicited sources in emails.   If the student  would like to provide the name and email address of the professor, you would be happy to provide the source link to him/her.

   I use my real name. If you want to make money online, all publicity helps. It's easier to build a brand name for Peter-Jan Celis than it is for hubberforlife247.

         It's simple.  Using a "real name" and real photo evokes trust.  Today, personality is everything - readers want to know the person behind the writing.
         
         I've always worried about revealing too much online, so I don't use my real name - but I do use a name that sounds real, and a photo rather than an avatar.

    There's no danger in just giving out your name. Pros use their real names. I like people to look at things with my name on them and it's good for business. Just don't give out other personal info.
