I know nothing about facebook, so I reserve judgement on that front, but I know that with myspace you can put links to your hubs or profile page nearly anywhere. There are detailed instructions in the "help" tab, or anywhere here on hubpages that offers the links. Obviously, if your profile is public, you stand a better chance of generating traffic, but if not, then at least your friends can see it!
I dont use either for traffic generation - for all of these types of sites the idea is to have several thousand followers/fans/friends who are interested in exactly what you are wrtiting about so will come visit and use the ads to buy ...
I'm no expert but I agree - hard to see how MySpace and Facebook, which are only visible to your friends and network, can generate the kind of buying public that you want to attract.
When i had my profile set to public I would get thousands of hits per day in my blog alone....idk how many hit my profile....so if your profile is public and you put the banner at the top I could see it working out well but idk just my opinion
Facebook also has a Groups area. I've had success joining a very specific group.. then joining in on conversation in their discussion forums to drive traffic. Although it worked, it was time consuming so I only use it occasionally.
If your articles are business related, Linked In is another option. They have a question and answer area that allows you to post links.. so you can use your article to answer questions- when it's relevant.
Good luck!
thanks for the advice everyone, i can imagine ti being quite time consuming, but if it is going to end up being worthwhile then i dont mind putting the time in, its just difficult when you feel as though your time and effort aren't yeilding you any results!
xx
Hello forum:
Facebook has 80 millions of members, its really a considerable target market, I think that social networks are a profitable option to increase traffic.

I have myspace, facebook, and tagged, but only a small sliver of my traffic comes from those sources. I used to be diligent about writing myspace blogs regarding my new hubs, but after awhile it just became too much work, and often writing new hubs can be a better use of this time. However, the little bit of traffic I did receive from writing those blogs is continous because I did quite a few.
I prefer blogs, although I have posted a few links in my facebook account. Not sure if I'm posting where it should be posted, but little notes and entries are the best that I can do. Ha.
I think all networking is good if you find the same like minded people in other wards people who are interested in what you are doing and the other thing help people you will be surprised.
I think blogs, facebook and myspace are good ways to get traffic, it just takes time and effort to consistantly post content, participate and answer questions in forums, networking is a measurable task that would probably work well if it is calculated into your normal writing routine.
Myspace and facebook are good and easy sources to tap into fro your networking and promotion, I guess the real factor is what size and quality are your networks there.
Particularly since Hubpages has the promotional button built right in. to instantly bulletin both networks....its worth that 30 seconds of work, but in general my myspace traffic for all my sites tends to be tirekickers who never click anything or purchase anything, so if i had to make a choice between the two, i would focus on the facebook network

Which do you prefer to use?

When I look at the questions section of hubpages I see pages and pages of silly questions. A lot of the time, when I click on "unanswered" or "latest" I see that the same person has asked ten or so questions in a row. I suspect that in most cases this is because of the fact that...

I'm wondering who uses MySpace or other sites to promote your Hubs? And what is the best way to go about doing that?I got some success by sharing my hubs with friends the last couple days by email- but I'd really like to build a nice strong network and somehow tie it all together with my hubs here,...

All,I would like to generate more traffic to my Hubs from outside sources, as it is my understanding that these are the folks that are more likely to 'click.' Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your reading my Hubs, too, but just want to add a bit more into the mix.Could someone please make a...

I've been going through some damn hard emotional stuff the past few weeks. A girl contacted me on myspace. After chatting to her for several weeks and really clicking with each other, we met.Since we had chatted so much we felt like we already knew each other and we really have lots in common....
