   Stewart challenged the president about "timid legislation" to reform the nation's health care system, economic recovery and financial reform, and whether it was possible to keep the inspiration and change promised in his 2008 campaign moving forward.
   
   "You ran on the idea that this system needed basic reform. It feels like some of the reforms that passed - like health care - have been done in a very political manner that has papered over a foundation that is corrupt," Stewart asked at one point.
   
   Obama argued that the work of his administration was unfinished, that he had promised "change you can believe in," not "change you can believe in in 18 months."
   
   "This notion that we could quickly transform Washington - it's a work in progress, it's just not going to happen overnight," Obama said.

         Absolutely. Considering how the Republicans have threaten filibuster on every single issue, no compromise, all the way down to the most insignificant appointments, basically acting like 10 yr olds with an attitude, all the while the moneyed interests, healthcare, oil, wall street, Koch brothers, Armey and his zombies, spent money rallying the morons and ill informed with flat out lies...yeah, quite a bit. I find it remarkable that the very people who at every step tried to stop anything from getting done, are the very ones yelling, "you didn't get it done." It is ignorance. When it comes down in the end, we can blame it on ignorance, arrogant ignorance of the ill informed, bigoted, anarchists who think NO regulation would be the way to go, and flat out militant anti government conspiracy types. A great shame is upon my country and has been for a long time. I blame you people.

   As a matter of fact the only change he will give is a change in leadership.
   
   Thank you Barrack, your accomplishment is being just as bad or worse than Jimmy Carter.

      It takes a long time to clean up the GOP's messes. Clinton was lucky in that the digital age came along and helped fix the economy handcuffed by the savings and loan scandal and then the stagnation under Bush Sr. Obama has the economy turned around, and job growth generally lags about a year to a year and a half behind positive economic changes.

         It is true that employment is a lagging indicator.  The recession ended over a year ago and yet unemployment continues to rise.  Hardcore unemployment is becoming entrenched and the rate of economic growth is languishing at around 1%.
         
              It is ironic that an economy that lost $1trillion in value following the attacks on 9/11/00 was in full rebound within a year yet has collapsed once control of congress changed in January 2007.  We place far too much responsibility for the impact of bad (or good) economic policy on the President when those policies are always, ALWAYS, a product of cooperation between Congress and the President.
         
            For good or for ill, that cooperation is required for the implementation of policy precisely because we are not a monarchy.  Once the tax cuts expire the economy will dive again.  The monetizing of the national debt, the increase in M1 and the continued low interest, loose money policies of the Federal Reserve have set us up for massive inflation.  So we face, once again, high inflation, economic stagnation and - if history is any guide - rising interest rates.
         
           To anyone paying attention that is the Jimmy Carter economy or the Robert Mugabi economy or The Weimar economy.  Thanks in no small part to stupid policies that lost Republicans congressional control but mostly as a consequence of bad policies wholeheartedly endorsed by the Democrat Congress and Barrack Obama.

         We haven't cleaned up the World Trade Center yet from 9 years ago! You think the entire market will be fixed in 18 months? Are you out of your damned mind?! Go back and look at unemployment statistics after each depression. Learn something for a change. The market is at a higher point than before the recession. Think about it. You have to stabilize the markets first, stop a run on the banks (which Bush did with the bailouts that Obama is always being blamed for), before you can do anything else. He did that and in not a great amount of time. He invested in the country's infrastructure for the first time since Eisenhower. This is ridiculous. He hasn't been perfect, but take a look at the environment in which he has had to work. This is entirely ridiculous.

   I didn't expect Obama to turn everything around in 18 months, but I DID expect him to follow through on "small" campaign promises, like posting bills online, closing Guantanamo, airing the health care hearings on C-span, providing an anuual report on the future of energy, eliminating executive signing statements, re-establishing the NASA Council, introducing a comprehensive immigration bill in his first year, enforcing PAYGO, stopping 401k penalties, not employing lobbyists...
