The art of getting followers on Hubpages.

   When I first joined Hubpages, I went, as I call it, click crazy. I was just following everyone I could in hopes they would follow me and read my hubs. Soon I realized that half of the people I followed weren't even writing on Hubpages anymore. There are so many that have wrote 2 or 3 great hubs, in my opinion, and just abandoned Hubpages all in all. You wouldn't believe how well some of these Hubbers were writing. I wish so bad I could get in touch with some just to ask them to come back and write more hubs.
   
   After I learned this, I noticed that this was not the way to get people to follow me. I looked at people like Patty Inglish, Mike and Nell Rose and noticed that they had so many followers. After closely observing what these fellow hubbers were doing differently, I noticed that they hardly follow others. When I checked out who they were following, it seemed that those hubbers were highly active in forums and had great material.
   
   So... My next step was to write more interesting hubs and be more active in the forum. Since I started posting in the forum, I realized how many hubbers that I truly wanted to follow and get to know. It is a much better experience to follow those that you have common interests with. If you like poetry, follow poets. The same goes with sports. I can't tell you how many hubbers have inspired me to write different hubs.
   
   How do you follow others? Do you have click fever or are you truly reading others hubs and contributing to the hubpage community?

   If I follow, It is because I expect to want to read. If I get disappointed too many times, I unfollow.

   Following Hubbers just because you liked one or two articles or forum comments, is like subscribing to a bunch of magazines, because one or two articles looked interesting at the time.
   
   You've found out that Hubpages is not a social networking site..that's good.  Being choosy saves you lots of time, not having to read stuff you don't really care about, just because you follow someone.  It's all about quality, not quantity.

   I've been on hiatus for quite a few weeks. I realize how badly I miss writing, so I came back. I hope my followers aren't disappointed in the break in writing.
   
   The good news is, I'm back and better than ever. I expect to publish several new hubs in the next few days.

   I remember my first follower left me fan mail along the lines of "Great hub, we write on completely different subjects so maybe you should follow me."
   
   I was put off by that and didn't follow them. In fact at first I wanted to maintain a low profile.
   
   Now I only follow people either 1. Who have a great deal of information & ideas I can use, such as
   ►Some of the more pro hubbers, like Darkside, Thisisoli, Ryankett, Spacey Gracey.
   ►People who are very funny like Kangaroo_Jase and Shadesbreath.
   ►My own referrals who've written a quality hub or two and I wish to encourage.
   
   Occasionally a new member who I feel needs encouragement.
   
   I regularly go through and remove people who've not written for a few months and don't appear to be coming back, though.

   I have only really followed a few people, I don't get much time to read hubs at the moment so it doesn't really do me any good to follow others, and being followed myself doesn't give much of a monetary benefit, so it's not a huge deal.

   Fenixfan-it seems your interest in improvement and openness to change has allowed you to discover the 'secret' that I am noticing so many new hubbers are asking--How does it happen: the followers, the high rating.  Good for you.
   
   Just today I read two other hubbers ask similar questions, and last week there was a third.  It isn't rocket science, but, all writing skill aside, a basic formula of participation works.

    Sound advice indeed. I've been away from the forums for a while with being busy writing and then other things but it's great to be back and re-engage for a while before I'm off again!
