This is a serious post.
Our TV that Hubby bought to watch the 2006 Winter Olympics just crashed. Kaput.
We need to replace it ASAP and I am swamped with work and no time to research.
Can anyone recommend a good HD TV under $1,000?
I believe this one is 40" so that or maybe 42" (doesn't need to be gigante).
Many thanks. You may have saved my marriage! MM
I've gone without a TV for over 10 years, best thing that I ever did. Try to not get another one and see how much better your life is without one, really.
Hey Mighty Mom,
Here is a link to one on Amazon, if it helps.
I'm not sure of the design or other things regarding it, but just checked to see.

Conventional tv and cable have gone the way of the dodo at my house. We all watch via the Internet now.
Think about features. Some new TVs have Netflix and other streaming built in - that will likely become very important in the future.
Chet.com has a great section on HDTV advice.
For a major purchase such as this, I would drop by:
http://www.consumerreports.org
...or drop by your local library magazine section and get the brand recommendations for free.
You will get some good help over at the HD forums

But you can't go wrong with anything Panasonic.
Mighty Mom, I have a 46 inch and a 40 inch Samsung.
I have never had trouble with either. My 46 inch tv also
doubles as my computer screen.
The 40 inch was bought at walmart for about $750.00.
Hope you find what you are looking for.
An afterthought…
Just how dead is it?
Is there a reset button in back?
Is there a fuse in back?
Have you tried rebooting it (unplug/re-plug)?
Tried giving it a good whack or two?
LOL and thanks all.
The TV is really dead, it's really most sincerely dead.
Hubby has been doing research on a replacement.
Thanks for all the tips.
Unfortunately, NOT having a TV is NOT an option in this home.
As a matter of fact (and this is so sad) we could not have my mother-in-law over for dinner tonight because we don't have TV for her to watch.
Now you all know our sick little truth.
Me, I'm cool with just my little old laptop and an Internet connection!
Follow up to yesterday's post.
We ended up with a SONY LED (not LCD) because LED is supposed to save energy.
There is a story about the set up of the new TV but I am too exhausted to share it!
Thanks again all for your inputs and concern.
And yes, Cags. We will now be able to entertain my dear sweet MIL for Thursday Night Football!
