Habee, it makes a lot of very good points. I found myself agreeing with it, until almost the very end. But then it kind of copped out. Lots of critiques of public education are good at pointing out many of the problems, but not the solutions.

What it doesn't say is that it was a mistake to fund education with taxation. What it doesn't say is that it was a mistake to make it compulsory. What it doesn't say is that it was a mistake to use public money to tell children that if they don't go to school they are fools.

I am facing the dilemma of where to send my daughter to high school when she graduates from her current school. There are not many choices. Taking away our choices is what the system did to all of us.

as a former educator I could see that public education in the US needs a complete overhaul.
it isn't meeting the needs of many kids and is outdated.
it also serves as a warehouse or holding pen for many acting out students who are required to go,and interrupt the educational process in the meantime.
I spent most of my time disciplining towards the end...
Homeschooling is popular for these reasons.

That was a seriously thought provoking video.   Instruction interesting and fun demonstrated.   Of course, I detest the need for standardized testing, it creates a lot of problems.  I did a mini study once using a math screening tool that took about 10 minutes and compared the results to a two day standardized math test.  The results were the same.   Our students are subjected to the most incredible amount of testing you can imagine and have to give up a couple of weeks a year to do it.  How it makes them feel is an atrocity.

Personally, I believe in some aspects of the education system, and was part of an awesome school that pushed the envelope.  We did lots of things that were great including adventure ed and a student apprenticeship program.   Great results.   It isn't all bad, local schools can do more and different things.  We need to motivate and encourage educators to do more of these things.

    Thanks for the stimulating video.

GREAT video, habee! Thanks for posting it. My experience in the education system pretty much verifies what he's saying. Hence, I had absolutely no interest or desire to go on with graduate studies at university. Sad, really. It should have been the reverse.

Very cool video. And I thought I was one of a very few that believe ADHD is just a conspiracy.
