Movie critics, as well as regular people hold certain movies to be great. All your friends loved it. You think  to yourself, 'I hated it.' And wonder if maybe you just missed something important.
Citizen Kane is often held up as the Greatest American Movie Ever. Sorry. I hated it.
So what Great Movie do you hate?

its kind of a tough question to say, as I usually tend to agree with a lot of critics on movies.  However, there have been exceptions though like the "Scream" movies.  I tried to like them but the more i watched, the more I realized how comical and stupid they were versus being actually scary.

Well there was also the remake of "Planet of the Apes" with Mark Wahlberg.  People to this day tell me how much that film sucked, but I loved it.  Sure, it's not as great as the original, but what remake ever is?  Nah, I like both films equally. I just hope the new apes movie, "rise of the apes", coming out next year will be just as good.  I can't wait for that one. smile

Hi, Dolores, The film that I detested was Gone With the Wind! By the time it had got to the end I really didn't Give A Damn! sorry but it's true, I think the last time I saw it was about ten years ago, but that was only because my family insisted on sitting down and watching it!

I have to agree with you Delores, I didn't care for Citizen Kane.

As far as Orson Welles films go, I actually enjoyed "The Third Man" much more.

I'm lukewarm on Star Trek myself. Not nearly as bad as Star Wars, tho!
    Others on my list:

    4. On the Waterfront

Is it wrong that I laughed while watching Titanic?  I mean, it was tragic, and all that, but the movie was just stupid!  Then there was the part where the guy fell and hit the propeller.  I couldn't help it...I laughed.

All in all, though, I loved Titanic.

gracenotesposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Well, Titanic was cheesy in some ways.  The love story between Leonardo and Kate was played like a 1990's romance.

I do think that Leonardo DiCaprio is the reason the movie was so successful.  In spite of the movie's flaws, there is something so appealing about that guy when he's on the big screen.

I agree with you on that one. The critcs were raving about it, and I thought it was one of the most stupid movies I have seen in a long time. The whole little girl doing a stripper routine at a child beauty contest was just so stupid.

How could anyone in this little girls house not know that she was going to put on this embarressing act. There were just far too many disfunctional people in this movie, all crowded into one van.  Stupid.

  11. Mighty Mom profile image78

Couldn't even watch more than 10 minutes of Little Miss Sunshine.
Titanic -- good one! Agree 100%. Gag me.
A Christmas Story, really? I love that movie! But I can see how ssomeone could find it annoying!

I didn't like Titanic, but have never admitted it - I bet a lot of people are like me - don't want to swim against the tide!

and you know, there are plenty of other ones I hated too - but I tend to forget I ever saw them, then I go ahead and rent them again because I've forgotten that I hate it and what a bummer, 4 minutes into it I recall how awful it is.  silly me. smile  that's why I have to rent 3 or even 4 movies at a time, so maybe 2 of them I will like.  lol

    Okay...I'll say it.
    AVATAR!
Without the state of the art special effects, it would have been another B (maybe B+) Sci Fi flick.
Yes the story is touching and special and has a message and has been the storyline of about 4 films I can think of, Dances With Wolves, Pocahontas, Fern Gully and The Last Samurai.

  16. Mighty Mom profile image78

So that's two James Cameron flicks. Hmmm.

  17. gracenotes profile image90

    I dislike all of these:

    1. Chicago (yes, the one with Renee' Zellwegger and Catherine Zeta-Jones)
    2. The Last Emperor
    3. The Horse Whisperer
    4. The Dark Knight
    5. Gran Torino (terrible, except for the ending song, which was nice).

I also hated The Bridges of Madison County, and therefore I know beyond a shadow of doubt, that I would find the Robert James Waller novella repulsive as well.

I don't like most movies with Robert Redford - why, I don't know I don't see that he's an actor - just a good looking guy who reads lines ok.  very superficial - but he does good things outside of the movies.  oh well.

I like a lot of the movies listed..

I can't say that I hate these movies, but I just can't get into the Pirates of the Caribbean movies... I don't know why because I love watching Johnny Depp and I'm a huge Hans Zimmer fan who did the music score and the music is great!

but the movies don't hold my attention. hmm

    1. profile image0
Stevennix2001posted 13 years agoin reply to this

yeah, im a 100 percent with you on the whole pirates of the caribbean films.  if it wasn't for johnny depp, those films would've really stunk!

another film I can't understand why people like it is the damn "Twilight Saga" series. all the films were nothing more than cheap erotic soft core pornography geared towards little girls, that offers poorly written dialogue and some of the most lame combination of over and under acting you can ever find in one film.

Then there's the critically acclaimed "sling blade" that launched billy bob thornton's career.  don't get me wrong, i think he's a cool guy, and he's one of the few celebrities that i wish i could hang out with sometime.  however, "sling blade" was not only just awful, but the acting in that movie was just plain terrible.  Seriously, every line those actors said in that movie sounded rehearsed with hardly any emotion into the parts.

The "Scream" movies are hilarious! They're supposed to be a sendup of horror movies. I'm not even sure they're supposed to be scary (anyone know?).
Agree with you that sometimes classics should not be remade. Even with Mark Wahlberg big_smile.

    Some others on my list:
    1. ET
    2. Close Encounters ...
    3. Poltergeist
    4. Jurassic Park (horrible)
    5. Alien
    6. Contact, Volcano, Twister -- pretty much any mega disaster or sci fi flick

i remember when i first got onto hubpages, i made a joke saying that the matrix trilogy sucked (which it does).  However, a million hubpage users at the time got p***ed off at me, and started to not only insinuate that i didn't comprehend or understand the movie.  they tried to make it out like i was one who started the argument, even though i didn't even want to debate anyone in the first place.  what was really insulting is they asked another hubber for permission to debate with me, instead of asking ME directly.  can you believe that?  oh well. i guess the matrix trilogy is like the bible on hubpages.  you say one bad word about that over hyped commercialized garbage, and people get offended easily by it.  roll  lol

Wow Logan's Run. That was a very interesting movie. I really liked that one, because it was so different, and, it was a pretty decent story. The ending was kinda dumb, but, the movie was kind of complicated. How do you end a movie like that?

Sometimes when I am in a bad situation, or, if something is not going my way I will just sit down and say to myself...."There is no sanctuary!" And, eventually I'll snap out of it and go about my day. I loved that movie.
