"Before the 2006 midterm elections in which Republicans ultimately took a clobbering, Sen. Mitch McConnell asked President Bush in a private Oval Office meeting to pull some troops out of Iraq in order to boost the GOP's chances, Bush reports in his new memoir.

And in the same month -- September 2006 -- that McConnell made his private request, he publicly blasted Democrats for calling for a reduction of troops in Iraq, saying that their position endangered Americans."

The party this man belongs to also obstructed governing, and smeared and lied about a president for two years in order to secure their  power.

As a Democrat, how can I trust anything they say or do?

Don't try, you can't trust a party that sold out to Crapitalist exploiters long ago.

        Do it yourself lobotomy?
        A sheet of potent LSD?
A few rounds of electroshock therapy?
A sound knock to the head?
        Powerful anti-psychotic meds?

I am sure one of these would do the job, and a combo would definitely do it in even the toughest cases.

Food for thought:  Intelligence is the ability to cheat.  Politicians are surrounded with clever people.

"I can't lose the whole Democratic Party," Obama is quoted as saying.

      http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE68L5V520100922

The difference between Bush and Obama is Bush did what he believed was right without concern for how he would be portrayed and without concern for his political party.

Obama on the other hand does everything to maintain his hold on power, to promote himself, his image and that of his party, even going so far as making military decisions that would limit his political liability even if it meant losing the lives of his military! Obama is scum! How can you trust him or any Democrat?

      1. Valentine Logar profile image66
Valentine Logarposted 13 years agoin reply to this

        Typical

Try quoting in context. The President in trying to implement is campaign promises to the people who put him in office was at odds with his military council, his staff and on the other hand if he implemented the proposals of his council and staff his party. This is a one off statement.

He was right no matter what he did he would lose. He has lost.

But typical, quote out of context and you place the man in a bad light.

His worst mistake quite frankly is attempting to negotiate with right wing fanatics.

I posted the source, go read Woodward's book. The context was in trying to decide how big the surge should be! In the end Obama went against the recommendations of his own generals and opted for a smaller force to limit his political liability!

You can spin it anyway you want, but that's the facts!

          1. Valentine Logar profile image66
Valentine Logarposted 13 years agoin reply to this

You have just said exactly what I said. Again Typical.

I did not deny that he went against the advice of his military council.

The differences is in your "spin" and mine is this.

Yes, he recognized what it would cost him with his party and his base. Again I do not and did not deny this. That he expressed it is also not inappropriate under the circumstances. That he made a decision, I suspect based on more that just this is likely the truth, he isn't stupid.

You take a single comment out of context and call it the truth, I suspect without reading the book in its entirety. I am more inclined to take the entire set of circumstances and look at the whole.

I don't like spin. I do like facts. Neither you or I, or for that matter Woodward know Obama's mind on this subject. What we have is conjecture and the reporting of many people with agendas of their own, including Woodward, selling books.

The very fact that political liability was a consideration in deploying troops speaks volumes of the type of man Obama is and how he thinks. That isn't spin, it's evidence that supports the view that Obama cares only about maintaining power to carry out his agenda.

Oh really? No choice? Repubs never felt compelled to work with him, or even show him a modicum of respect, and he is the duly ELECTED president.

I say he should behave just like they do...."F off, I'm in charge!" That's what Repubs do.

Unfortunately, he has more class than that.

It's like facing a snarling pit-bull with an outstretched hand of friendship.

We'll just have to be the pit bull for him.

YOU showed us that! We have NO obligation to listen to, respect, or give any credence to any Repub ever! No matter what office they hold.
              Thanks for showing the way.

You are detached from reality, you're post absent of fact. Obama is hardly smarter than Bush! Obama can't speak without a teleprompter! The liberal media might claim Obama is smarter but his actions clearly demonstrate the opposite is true.

Obama has instituted 2.5 trillion dollars in new spending with his health care bill, which has to be paid for. He's cutting medicare to do so in part. His financial reform is adding to everyone's banking costs. To enforce his unconstitutional mandate for insurance he's planning on adding 16,000 new IRS agents, guess what, someone has to pay for that, and I suppose it should be the rich?

You and all your socialist democrat friends want all this free stuff and you want someone else to pay for it. worse you want the government to be the agent of that redistribution, and you claim I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer? Maybe you should read a book, Bush's book would be a good start, and then read Beck's book "Broke".

"You and all your socialist democrat friends want all this free stuff and you want someone else to pay for it."

            You mean like these?:

"Consider Vicky Hartzler of Missouri, who courted tea party support and dethroned the chairman of the House Armed Service Committee, Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton.

Hartzler and her husband own a farm equipment business and a farm where they grow corn and soybeans. She received more than $770,000 in farm subsidies over the past 15 years, according to the Environmental Working Group, a Washington advocacy group that collects and analyzes farm subsidy data.

While promising to cut what she called wasteful spending, Hartzler says protecting farmers is a national security issue because the decline of farms could mean more imported food."

            Uh-Huh.

"GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, an outspoken critic of farm payments, listed between $15,000 and $50,000 in farm income as one source of revenue on her personal financial disclosure statement last year, citing a Bachmann family farm in Independence, Wis., as an asset.

That farm, which was owned by her father-in-law, received more than $250,000 in subsidies over the past 15 years, according to the Environmental Working Group."

"South Dakota Republican Kristi Noem, who ousted Democratic Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, had partial ownership in a ranch that received more than $3 million in subsidies over 15 years, though her family bought her out last year."

"Farmer and gospel singer Stephen Fincher won an open seat House race in Tennessee this year while both railing against federal spending and deflecting criticism that his family had received $3.2 million in federal farm subsidies in the past 10 years."

            Freebies like that???
Difference IS, Dems want them for others besides themselves, Repubs only want them for themselves!!

And, while we are at it.....regarding the Publibbaggers and "privitizing" everything to benefit the banksters and their bizness friends:

"The 1994 Republican congressional sweep led to the 1996 farm bill, known as the Freedom to Farm Act, which sought to return the farm sector to the free market. Commodity prices fell, and Congress was forced to later approve billions of dollars in emergency spending for farmers."

Capitalism on the way up--Socialism on the way down! HUH?

I think it's good governing to make sure all citizens are healthy and cared for.

Repubs, on the other hand, scream about it. They are against government giving money to farmers, or anybody else for that matters, save for business and wealthy people.

So, since they SAY they are against it, they should not take it for themselves. Get it?

And I believe it is because they have total dis-respect for Obama as a man, and it comes from a feeling of white superiority.

It IS out of Bush's book!!
But, I also believe it with every fiber of my being.

I just can't BELIEVE we are STUCK with this crowd again. GOD.

But, Obama needs to be  Democrat....not the Blue-Dog kind, but the REAL kind.

The Roosevelt kind. As Moore showed on Maher's show last night. Arresting a business tycoon who refused to follow the law....they get FREE REIGN to break the law here nowadays!

Partisan Patriots...that's all the Repubs are in 2010, IMO.

I think the most important thing to do is to reduce everything down to singularities, focus on the minutae, and then make broad sweeping claims that incite emotional reactions in people who agree with you.  Then, if we keep doing that, everything will get better.

Unfortunately, Shades, it seems to work.  I keep hearing horror filled voices exclaiming that Obama uses a teleprompter or that Palin writes notes on her palm (at least I think that's what it was - I don't really pay much attention to such drivel).  If such trash didn't elicit an emotional response favorable to the speaker I doubt they would keep repeating it.  It seems to work with far too many people.

I thought it was Obama's debt commission that is suggesting taking away Social Security??

hi habee- true it's a bipartsan commission. 9 and 9 under obama. but the repubs alan simpson(r)and erskine bowles have put this proposal forth.rather than increase taxes on the rich and cut defense spending. giving it an obvious lean to the right as huff post states.however, this proposal will require a fourteen man vote. but it shows you where their heart always is... not for the people.

I mostly agree with that, Joe. For MOST politicians, where their heart really is in getting re-elected! None of them are hurting financially - thanks to the tax payers.

Joe, Erskine Bowles is NOT a republican - he's a democrat.
