What do you mean by scammed?

Many internet dating sites charge from $30-$100 a month to access their dating databases.

The only scams I've heard of are sites that have multiple site accounts set up with photos of good looking women. In the first day after joining these 'women' will each send emails saying how interested they are, but after you pay to email them back they give reasons why it won't work out. That's why it's important to check the terms when you sign up for these sites.

Would you care to elaborate on that Betty?

You've only been a member for 30 minutes. And since hubpages doesn't charge you a cent to use it, exactly how are they a scam?

you are utterly not going to believe this but I speak th truth, I am cherokee and relatively new to placing a profile pic. As insane as this may sound i did in fun and many egyptian people asked to be added as friend, i like making friends but then some told me i was a reincarnation of a deceased woman. I do not like such teasing even in fun , whats more i wonder if they are making fun of me. yazoogal43

I don't trust dating sites, nothing beats knowing someone in person.

Since love has a lot to do with luck.

      The internet is free
You get to pick from their profiles
Check them out with a few posts.
Check that person out over coffee.

Increase your chances of luck and lower your expense.

Never join fling or Alt.com. They are owned by the same company. Once you join you get pre-checked charges you never asked for and it's almost impossible to cancel your membership.

No I did not join, I push dating sites myself so I know about this. smile

There are a lot of scammers on the net not just on dating sites.
The best way to protect yourself when online dating is to never post your real name, address, phone number or email on a site.
When you make a connection with someone ask to meet them in a video chat room or on Skype. Then you can see who you are talking to. A scammer will not expose themselves in this way unleass they are particularly stupid.

When you get request, before you reply take a second to check their profile page out. If they have no photos or a model shot and no real information, drop them. It's probably a scam. These people always ask for your Yahoo IM before asking your name for some reason.

If it looks to good to be true it inveriably is. Be safe and happy online dating.

I won't focus on the scam sites, I can tell you that Match.com is a legitamite service that offers a free trial version and a paid option with enhanced features including browsing of your profile from  a mobile phone/device. In general, with online dating, the sites that are free normally lead to the most headaches. You want to select a site that offers a paid option, the financial investment normally signifies a commitment from its members.
