Two schools of Christian thought. In one corner those who believe the Old testament is a precursor to the new and represents one God.In the opposite corner, those who believe Christ came to awaken people to there condition under the"Bad Boy"God of the old testament and lead them to the"One and Only"Good God.Group one quotes scripture as evidence while group two claims distortion and linguistic evolution have changed Christs message. We also have a corner reserved for the Atheists who shoot down any God through science and logic. Our fourth corner is reserved for those folks you encounter in long lines...You Know, the ones who just can't seem to make up there minds...The Agnostics. The rules for this debate are...There Are No Rules!
Well he did fancy turning water into wine
I suspect he was great for a laugh and more fun to be around then any of his 'followers'
I'm sure he was great fun sometimes. But don't forget he also told you how to live your life. What to do, what not to do. Stuff like that.
I gotta argue with you there friend. I could be wrong in saying this I admit but my impression is all this 'do this or be damned' stuff came from his followers, not JC. The large majority of his followers being those who came after his death no less.
As I see it even the disciples are in no position to be writing books telling me and everyone else what to do and not do, yet those are the bits that made it into the final cut of the bible (don't even get me started on the other religious texts). And who was it betrayed JC? Where were they when JC was executed? And I am supposed to take their word seriously? Ha! Whatever! Looser!
Sorry sorry, had a blond moment there!
I guess at the end of the day what we have are some very old documents written by folks of dubious reputation to form our opinions from and that ain't easy. I suppose that is why I have more respect for the atheists round these parts then the 'true believers' even tho I have this sense of JC being this open minded hippy telling everyone to stop going to bloody middle men for their spirituality (ya know, priests and such) cause we don't need 'em and they can't be trusted anyway! And this to me seems a very sensible message to deliver to humanity. Shame too few picked up on that message
Kay, not sure what the question is entirely so I may not be answering the question you are posing but I am having fun so why not give it a go anyway!
27 or 66 books to the bible? Well I think I am in the tin foil hat group and will say more then 66. The lost books of the bible as I have heard them referred. These books of course being the books that talk against organized religion the corruption that is inheritance and unavoidable in any organized anything (religion, government, business whatever, it all gets corrupted).
The book of Thomas being one, the book of Mary of Magdalene being another, well any that empowers the people to seek spirituality without deferring to another human mind (the first step to being corrupted, being given power over another, not a good thing).
What do ya think? Do I belong in the tin foil hat group?
Hi K.Sorry about the confusion. Please allow me to clarify. Some Christians believe the god of the old testament[39 books] is the one true god and the same god as the guy in the new testament,so the bible has 66 books.some believe this is an evil being and the god of the new testament[27 books] Only is the true god.Only have four corners so had to leave out the Lost folks, though all are welcome to debate...or preach.
Well, who am I to argue! I don't meddle much in the affairs of Christianity. No time. I must admit I lead my own religion. I'm its principal god. Mithras.
Thats cool
Might I make a prophesy for your religion?
I forsee, friendly encounters with some of the heathen members (they know who they are LOL) and encounters not worth bothering with in others *cough* Brenda Durham *couch*
Sorry had something in my throat there
Seriously, you are in for some fun with the irreverent and downright flippant remarks to the JC issue. I don't mind as I am not interested in converting or being converted, just having a bit of fun but there are those, well you'll see
BTW seems you are new here, welcome to the mad house!
I like your attitude towards JC's memory. Thank you for the prophecy and the welcome, Kirsten. (Notice that I spelled your name right.)
I suspect I coulda smoked a spliff with JC
Ya know, in real life anyway, no one ever spells my name right! I had to get over it ages back or go mad (well more so then I already am). Just don't call me anything rude and I will forgive spelling my name wrong

Why does everyone think that the Bible was written and put together by God? Don't people realize that there are many holy books and manuscripts that have been excluded from the Bible? St. Thomas Aquinas wrote one and it was omitted from the Bible by a group of people a few hundred years after Jesus...

I just read a post from someone stating that Christianity is based on the Bible which stands to reason, "If Christianity is based off the bible then that means it would have never come to furition since the book would never have been written because no Christian would have existed before...

Without delving into a lot of deep studying on the origins of words, I'll make a suggestion. Could it be that Jesus was redefining what God is when He called Himself the Son of Man?THink about it: He often referred to God as His Father, right? And then He refers to Himself as the Son of Man....

Thou shalt not commit adultery - what do you think the bible means by adultery? Give biblical proofI have heard it said, Jews or not - Thou shalt not commit adultery. Based on the old testament, do you think the bible's definition of adultery is the same as today's definition of adultery?

I think that the Christian religion would have been entirely different, if Apostle Paul hadn't screwed things up. It is my firm belief that if Christians really want to be Christ-like, they need to have a dual faith based, religious, belief system. As it is, how can any of us Christians...

Just a question for those Christians who profess to believe that the Bible is the literal and unalterable word of God; how do you justify the removal of the books of Baruch, Wisdom, Tobit, Ruth, Judith, 1 Maccabees & 2 Macabees during the 16th century?
