What is the best advice you would give a newcomer to Hubpages?

   I'm curious what the best advice you would give someone new to Hubpages. I've read lots of advice in the hubs, but please share what you think is important.

      Keep the cat off the keyboard, and clean up the doughnut crumbs from your desk so the fire ants don't visit. Oh, and write, write, write. And listen to the Hub veterans.

   Would definitely agree with advising people to go look at the learning center, way too many people asking questions which basically prove they did not bother to do an ounce of research.

   Decide why you're here.  That sounds obvious, but it's a question that people do need to ask themeselves!  For example, is it to make friends/socialise, or is it to write non-commercial stuff such as poetry or your life story, or is it to make money?  Or all of the above?
   
   If you want to make money, you really do need to do some reading about keyword research etc.  And be aware that it takes a LONG time before the earnings start to mount appreciably.

      Excellent advice about analytics - wow I left that way too long
      
      And come back to the forums to get help with understanding analytics - then when you know what you are doing with the reporting can you tell me

    Read others work, but dont copy. Learn layout techniques and work on things that you like. Ride out the highs and lows and listen or read the comments of really experienced and helpful hubbers who are really lovely and do really give good advice. (thats not trying to be too kind to anyone. There are really people who do help and are very very knowledgeable.

    Here's what I would pass on to a newcomer from my own experience: to financially succeed in writing for money, make a mixed forest of evergreen and deciduous content. Don't create only content that can be read daily and well into the future, but write content that can be useful every annual holiday as well!

    I have to be honest, as a newbie, it's a little hard not to get discouraged. I've done my homework and spent close to ten hours on my little hubs, most of the time spent having to do research and advertisement. Two of my hubs are already ranked #3 respectively for google on their distinct keywords.
    
    I've already got over 300 views, most are still from hubpages, but I'm getting hits from google and youtube now. The sad reality is I haven't even earned one red cent. Not even a dime. If this kind of traffic output can't even get one individual to click on a few ads, I don't know what will...

       DonDWest, you'll find that hubs take a few months to age in search engines and get good traffic. 300 isn't a lot - I just passed 145,000.
       
       And you'll find that the more hubs you do, the more you'll learn and the faster you'll get.
       
       Definitely listen to Spacey Gracey, below. She's a pro and she's earning more than I do from going to work each month!
       
       She started just 8 months ago with no knowledge of how to make money online. So if you have the knowledge, then you should be able to beat her right?

    DonD - go look at my profile page - see how many I hadin the first month and I made just 10 cents!. Now that many views is worth about $10 to me - that is not from adsense - most of it is from Amazon - but if I had given up after those first few weeks I never would've found out what potential there is in Hubpages.
    
    2 days is a bit quick to despair.
