I've managed to add my profile thumbnail image okay which is sometimes used for a hub, but on other occassions the hubs thumbnail is a bad crop of an image in the hub.

How can I choose which Thumbnail image to use for each individual hub to make them more presentable? I've noticed other hubbers don't seem to have this problem so I'm confused.

If it has to be an image being used within the hub itself, how can I guarentee it isn't cropped poorly?

Once you add several images to one image capsule, you can choose thumbnails as the display method (no border, with border, thumbnails). You have no control over the resizing/cropping.

If I'm understanding your question, the first photo on the hub goes into the thumbnail.  Make sure it is of good resolution, and crop it the way you want it.  Most likely it will then make a good thumbnail as well.

If this doesn't answer the question, then I assume WE has already done it.

I agree, that is how the thumbnails on the profile page are automatically generated. I noticed that Reality already has one hub like that, so I assumed he is asking about creating thumbnails inside the hubs themselves.

Okay, I've worked it out now. Yeah, the first image of a hub is used as the hub articles thumbnail. This is why all my thumbnails are distorted because most of the images I have used are irregular shapes. Its a shame there isn't an individual feature to allow us to choose which thumbnail we want for a hub. Maybe thats something I should request from hubpages.

I was hoping if I put the image I want as a thumbnail first in the hub, then set it to not display on the hub, then it might still use this as a thumbnail but unfortunatly it didn't work.

I'm just thinking that someone may not want their hubs article thumbnail to display on the hub itself. Then someone could really customise their article thumbs.

    What do you think?
    or is it a non-issue?

I think that when the viewers see a thumbnail on the profile page and then click on the link, they will expect to find the actual image inside the hub. Therefore, I am not in favor of generating thumbnails for images that are hidden or not included in the hub.

Fair point I guess! So maybe optional? i.e. have a choice of using an image in the hub or a different one for the hub thunbnail.
