   "Daily doses of Truvada cut the risk of infection by 44 percent when given with condoms, counseling and other prevention services. Men who took their pills most faithfully had even more protection, up to 73 percent.
   
   Researchers had feared the pills might give a false sense of security and make men less likely to use condoms or to limit their partners, but the opposite happened  risky sex declined.
   
   The results are "a major advance" that can help curb the epidemic in gay men, said Dr. Kevin Fenton, AIDS prevention chief at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But he warned they may not apply to people exposed to HIV through male-female sex, drug use or other ways. Studies in those groups are under way now."

   I have no ideal how MSNBC could print a story written in this fashion.  They are suggesting that if gay men take Truvada it will cut their risk of infection.  Why are they only focused on gay men when in fact whether gay or straight, male or female Truvada reduces the likely-hood of a patient developing full blown AIDS.

   Hi, and this is my opinion. Before you go and start taking some medication like Truvada, I think it would be a great idea to check out the side effects of the drug. The drug may cut your risk of hiv infection but it raises your risk of a lot more things like, Lactic acidosis, fatal, and severe liver problems, nausea, vomiting, or unusual or unexpected stomach discomfort; weakness and tiredness; shortness of breath; weakness in the arms and legs; yellowing of the skin or eyes; or pain in the upper stomach area, increased fat levels (cholesterol and triglycerides) in the blood, and abnormal body-shape changes (lipodystrophy; including increased fat around the abdomen, breasts, and back of the neck, as well as decreased fat in the face, arms, and legs). I think we all would be better served if we stop looking for a poly pill ( drug ) to cure everything. A lifestyle change would be a better choice, and I'm not talking about gay or straight, but making better choices about our health.
   Coconut oil has help hiv positive patients. Do your research.

      I couldn't agree with you more. The drugs that they prescribe are highly toxic, and for what? It's all about lifestyle choices, and by that I mean drinking, using drugs, staying up for days at a time with little or no nutrition. But they love to push their "treatments" saying it's perfectly ok to burn the candle at both ends.

   This article is sort of like saying taking doses of radiation can cut your risk of diseases,,,, but it could kill you too!!
   
   I'm so, so against taking damn pills for everything. Soon the pills themselves end up causing major problems, so you then end up taking pills to combat the pills!
   
   Here's an idea for everyone and for almost any health problem. Eat right, exercise, live in a healthy way and environment.
   
   As for avoiding aids, how about being careful who you sleep with and not take a chance on someone your not sure about?
   
   I really think the world would be so much better if every single pill vanished.
