Do you read to your pets?

   This may sound strange, but do you read to your pets?
   
   Every night in bed, I read a story from Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soulto my Lab X, Rusty. He sits or lies on the bed next to me, and it is obvious that he is listening intently to every word.
   
   There are some very touching stories in that book, and quite often I lose my battle with the tears. When that happens, Rusty comes right up the bed, licks me, and buries his head in my chest.
   
   Not having had human children, I suppose it shows that primal instinct of a parent to read a story before bed.

   I've sometimes read out the Riot Act to my pets, but read aloud to them? No.

   No - not me.  I've always talked to them in a variety of different ways, tried to help them learn through some gesturing, played music and attracted them to sit nearby an seem to listen, and sung to them (silly songs that I think will let them know, or least create the impression, that I'm happy and all is well) - but no reading.  It's nice to know someone does, though.  They appreciate it when people use their voices to let them know someone is trying to engage them.

   Hey, I always read interesting stuff to my little, pretty choco girl, sometimes I read what I write to her, she just tits her head and looks at me with those huge eyes of hers.
   
   She sometimes puts her head on my lap as I read to her all the time standing on two legs.. I always think that she understands it all... 
   
   she is happy to get all the attention... so its more about her than the reading!!!!

   No, but I sing to them. I sing popular tunes to them, changing the real lyrics to fit the furkids.

   I do on occasion, when I want to read, they'll sometimes snuggle up with me so it's like reading to them. It's fun!!

         I hope your ferret realises that the movie is never quite the same as the book.
         Unless it is the Lord of the Rings... then the movie is not even of the book.

            My ferret's name was tazz, most fearless creature I ever met. She loved nature shows mostly and pretended she was defending herself from other animals.

    I used to read to my cat when I was single. My Persian loved it probably because he found the sound of my voice soothing not because he actually understood the words. When I got married I ceased this activity since I didn't want him to think I was more crazy than I already am! LOL

    Dog is not only an animal,and not only a pet...
    they could be our friend and clother than the stranger..
    and we just could understand each other after a peried of time...

    I don't, but my dog doesn't know that . I use voice recognition software to rough draft my transcription projects, as well as for a lot of my articles, and she loves to curl up in my lap and listen. Since I only have to glance back at the screen every now and then to make sure it's still copying down what I say I can often pet her and pay attention to her while I'm working, and she does really seem to enjoy the whole process. She watches like a hawk whenever I get near my headphones just to see if I'll happen to plug them in.

       Hehe. Half your luck! Every time that Rusty sees me slide out my keyboard, he decides that it is time to play "jump on Mum".
