Not much to discuss;  just thought that somebody might want to know

I hear so many times how the first books of the bible presumed to have been written by Moses were passed down generations after generations after generations, until they were finally written down

So I just checked out the facts as written in the bible.

Adam was the only person that was mentioned in the generations of Adam who was not still living long after Noah was born.

Noah died three years before Abraham was born.

By this time, the story had been passed down three times in order for Abraham to have heard it.

From Abraham to Issac is another making 4 times
From Issac to Jacob is another making  5 times

Jacob died 155 years before Moses was born.
Scripture says that Moses' mom told him all about it.

It could quite possible be that these stories were hand-me-downed  only six or seven times.

Yea that is still a hand me down story !

But not so much as I was lead to believe.

I can't think any other book that has more translated hand me downs than the bible.

You got your self a can of ugly worms there.

I was just going by what was written  and am only talking about the timeline involved getting the story to Moses.

I think ya know I'm into time lines.

I know that I remembered every story my grandpa told me.

I can imagine all the grand and great great grand kids sitting on grandpas lap hearing these stories.

You’re still talking 100 to 300 generations of hand me downs

            Not from Adam to Moses.
Noah probably sat on the lap of everyone mentioned from Seth to Methuselah and heard their story.

Abraham's mom or grandma might have heard the story from Noah

And possibly only 4,5 or 6 until moses heard it.

I know that could be a lot by today's standards, but back then their oral traditions would have been held more sacred back then.
I'm just saying these stories would not have been as streetched as they would have been over the last 8 to 10 generations in these modern times.

This is  a kind of  weird thought, but as you marvel in this timeline of stories, I wish we had something more than hearsay when it comes to the Bible!

Some people swear that we do have more, but I'm not going there.

Just wanted to get a realistic view of what the bible does say. If ya don't believe the bible to hold any historical facts?  that is OK.
Just saying what it says about one subject at a time when I can.

Oh Jerami, I apologize. I truly don't want to imply that the Bible doesn't hold any historical facts.  In my life alone I have experienced grace and mercy.
        I apologize.

No  apology necessary,  I didn't misunderstand what ya said.
I thought the same words momentarily, thought it might be taken incorrectly. So didn't write it.

I wish there were more undeniable proof my self.

And wish God were more definable.
Maybe he was long long ago.

Good night ..  it's bed time around here. Have an early ,busy day tomorrow.

How do you answer for the over 2000 disagreeable version of the Bible?

Yes, there are a few beautiful stories to tell, over all, too many horror and contradiction ones also. I build natural history and fantasy displays around the world for 35 years. Religious stories is a red flag and I only handle G rated stories to tell to children or aldults.

I don't have to answer for them cause I didn't do it.
How many different recipes are there for cooking biscuits.
I tend to think that as long as it has flour and water in it; it is a biscuit.  BUT  if ya put too much baking powder and sugar in it ? it isn't a biscuit any more. It would be some kind of cake.

Same thing is kinda true about recipes for faith.
If you cooked it?  you can call it anything that ya want to
(You  is used figuratively)  But I don't have to agree with you.

Could a hand me down story be likened to Chinese Whispers. If it is and it happened that long ago imagine the change from the original version?

here in virginia I have found 5 different versions of the Bible, I have found all 5 to agree with each other, some of the time you loose some meaning in verses, but no real differences. you may loose some depth of the meaning of the word when translating  from one language to another, but there would not be any real differences in the word of God
