I pulled out one of my old college text books on psychology the other night.  Some friends and I were discussing why this current administration is determined to govern against the will of a majority of the poeple ie; raising taxes, healthcare, spending, bailouts, immigration, etc.  That discussion spark a distant memory thus, I went to the text book.

Under the chapter regarding major psychotic illnesses I found this:

Severe Delusional Disorders  -  holding a false belief based on incorrect interpretations about external realities that are maintained despite a lack of supporting evidence.

I think I may have stumbled onto something here.  smile

You are aware that when he came into office the county was rapidly plunging into a depression to equal that of the Great Depression?

How can any president stop the total collapse of the entire countries fincial system without money to pay the debts and protect the most vital businesses like the banks? I am sure you have money in a bank account and would not want to loose it all cause the bank had to file bankruptcy?

I agree, its totally evil to try to impose a basic standard of health care for every citizen, let them die in gutters of easily preventable illnesses, very christian action there. By the way, this is exactly how the anti-health care movement looks to the rest of the world, like you folks don't care one bit for anyone other then our own greedy selves.

If folks criticized with cogent well thought out alternatives for finding solutions to the very serious problems that face every day citizens in the good ol US of A instead of just screaming socalist all the time you might actually get the pres to do what you want, as it is most folks seem to be winging on and on without offering any real solutions as if they want to see the country collapse completely and fall into civil war and chaos so that they can blame it all on the half black guy.

My criticism of Obama, he hasn't learned from bush that the way to get things the people don't want done is to pull the anti-American terrorist sympathizer card on anyone who criticizes.  Lots of folks didn't agree with the war Bush started in Iraq but dared not say anything for fear of being arrested as terrorists, Obama could use a lesson from Bush on how to dictate to the people and keep them adequately scared and timid.

I am so sick of the whiners, disgusting really.

All I can say to your comment is you seem to be suffering from the same symptoms.  Bottom line is I don't give a hoot about Obama, Bush or any of the others.  Until we get a statesman leader instead of a professional politician we're all up a creek.

A politician is a politician at the end of the day, no big surprise there then! I have to say that the chances of the States getting a statesman as a leader is very unlikely due to the very nature of politics, a professional politician will win out every time. They wouldn't be a professional politician if they could not beat a statesmen hands down, thats the whole point of being a professional, being able to lie, cheat, steal and generally ruin the reputation of the opposition. Get rid of the media from politics and a statesmen might stand a chance but how likely is that to happen without WW3 taking us back to the stone age?

"why this current administration is determined to govern against the will of a majority of the poeple"

      You can answer that yourself!

WE elected Obama. WE, the majority of the American people. YOU have been trying to de-rail him ever since!  YOU went against "the will of the people" since the day President Obama came into office.

You want an answer? Look in the mirror and ask yourself....

Did you ever stop to think that maybe even though you don't agree with these things that the majority of Americans might?  And that maybe Fox News isn't giving you the whole story?

You are aware that when he came into office the county was rapidly plunging into a depression to equal that of the Great Depression?

    *No we weren't.

How can any president stop the total collapse of the entire countries fincial system without money to pay the debts and protect the most vital businesses like the banks? I am sure you have money in a bank account and would not want to loose it all cause the bank had to file bankruptcy?

*Let the bank that screwed up fail.

*Nobody is dying in the gutters from preventable illness, except those who choose to die in the gutter.

*I thought he was half white? Alternatives were offered and ignored, thats why the Republicans will be in control of the House of Representatives and most States have Republican Governors.

*Lots of folks voiced their disagreement with the wars, they did so without fear of being arrested as terrorists, if someone had that fear then they may be helped with the psychology textbook mentioned in the OP.

I am so sick of the whiners, disgusting really.

    *Tell me about it....

So the sub prime mortgage crash was a good thing then? I guess all those families evicted for failure to pay up where dancing in the street for the privilege then? Those greedy bankers where sh*tting rainbows and lollipops too I presume? I tell you what, its one magical unicorn of a non-collapse when it effects the global economy but didn't actually happen hmm.
You do realize that the first run on a British bank during the non-collapse was because it had invested in the collapsing American economy right?

Great idea! The wealth of the nation is tied up in corrupt banks, lets let them fail! My idea would be, bail the banks out but imprison any top level banker who is guilty of corruption, period but no, your idea is better, bring on the chaos! I wanna see rioting in the streets for food! Yeah! Sounds like a winner mate wink

All I can say to this is, wow, just wow! Guess you have never needed medical attention but not got it cause you couldn't afford it. Personally I can tell you, I did not have medical coverage as a kid growing up, not a bean, not to mention lost friends and family to poverty preventing them from being able to see a doctor, but hey you didn't know them so they probably didn't really exist right?

If I didn't know any better and only listened to the political types I would have said no not half white, as the impression given is that he is half black half socialist Muslim hmm Good thing I don't trust the political types ain't it? wink

Well now that was not the experience I had, but hey experience is subjective. May hap that you had a genuinely different experience and if so that is very nice for you.

Still waiting for real solutions here, other then of course let it all collapse (tho that does appeal to the anarchist in me I must admit, but I know that in reality that would actually be the worst thing for decent people).

Kirstenblog, you can't get through to that kind of thinking.

I read something the other day about an elderly man going to a political meeting about stopping Obamacare. Someone asked him why he had come and he said he wanted to stop Obamacare because he didn't like socialism.

The person then asked him if he had Medicare and the guy said yes, and he was at the meeting because he wanted to keep his Medicare.

The twit didn't realize that Medicare is a result of socialism. In fact, some people in the States don't realize that Unemployment benefits, Pensions, Social Security, etc. are all part of Socialism.

If you mention the word, 'socialism' to them, they immediately equate it with communism of the cold war variety.

The is also the misconception that America achieved wealth through the brilliance of its people and the rarity of its constitution. To try and explain that Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, and all the other New World countries had the same degree of wealth and it was the result of people being able to exploit resources not available in the old world is impossible. It simply has more of it because it has more land.

When I grew up in South Africa in the 50s and 60s, the Rand had a higher international value than the dollar did. White people had the highest standard of living in the world. And while it is easy to say that the wealth was the result of the exploitation of Africans, the truth is more that the land had gold, diamonds, coal, platinum, uranium, and fertile land was abundant.

The constitution of America is not unique. Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and the many countries of Europe all have similar constitutions. In fact the European Constitution is superior to the American one.

Few here realize that Europe's gross national product matches that of America and China put together.

When I arrived in the States I was shocked that their technology for TV, mobile phones, and computers wasn't as good as that in the UK and Europe.

        But nobody would believe me.

So, I've given up. It's not worth arguing about it. When people don't travel, and when their press has fed them celebrity gossip and the bs the mega corporations want them to believe (so that they can fleece them somemore), the situation has gone beyond saving.

I'm just wondering how long it's going to take before they realize the problem is systemic and no matter who they vote into power next time, he isn't going to resolve the issue either.

Do you know that America is way down the list in terms of creativity? Do you know it's about number 99 in terms of math. I could go on.

South Africa had the first heart transplant.

The French invented the Oxy-Acetylene Gas Cutting Torch

The Canadians invented the anti-gravity suit for high altitude flying

Per Capita, the Israelis have more world class inventions than anyone else.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying? You're saying that America invented  some things in the past and this proves what?

I believe the topic is current.

Ah, it's the super power thing. wink

                I'm curious about something.

What's going to happen in a couple of decades when there's another super power?

Why is being a super power so important?

The only thing that currently makes it a super power is the amount of money that it spends on warfare.

If Europe spent the same percentage of its income on warfare, it would be the superpower. I guess it's a matter of priorities.

The other thing that made America the country that others deferred to was that once upon a time it had a gold standard. This meant that other countries used it as a standard for forex (foreign exchange), i.e. as a measure for their currency.

Nixon removed America from the gold standard in 1970, probably because the gold was depleted after spending it all maintaining forces in Europe.

Once the gold standard was gone, people carried on as before, but people are beginning to ask why American currency should be the standard as it doesn't have the gold anymore.

Since then, America is in such debt that the Swiss Banks are politely issuing warnings about it.

At some point, this has all got to come to a head. Other currencies, like it or not, will become stronger.

So, all I was pointing out to Kirstenblog was that it was pointless saying anything to defend her point of view, that it wasn't going to be heard. Mine won't be heard either. smile

                And that's okay.

I'm firmly of the opinion that it doesn't matter where one lives, if one is rich and powerful, it's a grand experience, and if one is poor, then some countries are better than others.

I'm also firmly of the opinion that every country has its issues and that it's a matter of picking one's poison.

Basically, it doesn't matter where one lives, there are nice people, not-so-nice people, and the nice laws and not-so-nice laws.

                smile

I think those "families" were just as greedy getting mortgages they couldn't afford as those giving them. As far as the British bank, whaaaaaaaa.

What about the corrupt politicians like Chris Dodd,Maxine Waters,Barney Frank? They get a pass because they were trying to help the poor get a house right? Just ignore the sweet mortgage deal from countrywide because hey, they were only trying to do good.

This is true, some of those families were trying to have more then they have earned, possibly due to the fact that in society we are taught that we are worth what we own. For the intellectually lazy or downright unintelligent they had their greed (need for worth in terms of what they own) appealed to by corrupt business men who didn't give two figs about the people. When I was in a similar situation to those people, ie hungry and broke and struggling to survive, I was advertised to in just the same manner. I did look at those adverts and think 'boy you don't ever want to see that money again do you?! if your willing to give it to me!' Not that I wouldn't have wanted to pay it back but I knew darned well it wouldn't happen with the income I had at the time. Now I worked myself into a better life and it's threatened by those freeloaders? That sucks! But you know what, life sucks. Grow up and deal with it! I never got to go on holidays and buy useless cr*p to advertise my value to the world, I lived in such a way that I was dramatically underweight, passed out all the time had health problems all because I couldn't even afford food once my rent was paid. I could have your attitude quite easily Jim. I really could. Like it or not those people where greedy or dumb and where taken advantage of and now we have a problem that we cannot just ignore. To do so would cause people like you and me more pain and suffering then dealing with the problem would, however unfair it is. Like the saying goes 'life's not fair, get over it'.

Oh can we? Lets get those weed smoking teens out of jail and replace them with corrupt bankers, mortgage lenders and politicians. Imaging if being caught in corruption held the same consequences as being found selling weed, or committing a violent crime? That sure would go a long way to creating a world that is slightly fairer. To bad the people who could actually make that happen are the ones who profit the most from the corruption and control what the every day person on the streets knows of what is going on. Again, life sure ain't fair, and it really sucks.

I am actually American and I live abroad. I moved to the UK shortly after Pres Bush was elected the first time, before the war kicked off even. All this stuff that the US is going through now is stuff I thought would happen and why I was happy to escape while it was easy enough to do. None of what has happened over the past decade or so has come as a surprise to me, these problems have been in the making for as long as I can remember. Oh by the way the NHS is good in certain areas and totally sucks in others. My first day in this country and I had more health coverage then I had ever known before, on the other hand it can feel very superficial. I get my sick note for work sure, get to see a doc any time I need but the advice they give is sometimes pathetic. I do have to pay for prescriptions to be filled, not very expensive but for some meds it's actually cheaper to buy over the counter, its all relative I guess (if I needed very expensive stuff my only problem would be in getting the prescription in the first instance, once I had it I could afford to get it filled). With all those problems with the NHS I still think its better then what I had back home, which was absolutely nothing (in regards to health coverage).

so the verdict as to if he is half black half muslim socalist is still out is it? Funny that wink

Nope, back when I still lived in the States and was repeatedly told to get out of the country, which I am glad I did wink (fair enough, you didn't know I am an ex-pat living abroad but yeah this is back before I moved/escaped)

Again I must forgive you for not realizing my citizenship, understandable. I have family and friends who I love dearly and as such what happens back home is of importance to me. I would dearly love to see more solutions being offered instead of the ridicule I see in the news and here on the forums and any where else I look to find out if anyone is actualy doing more then whining. I did like your idea (above) of taking criminal type action for politicians as well as bankers etc. for major corruption, that would be a great thing to see happen. So what else have you got? Seems you might have some more gems if we can just get past the whole blame for Obama thing, never know folks like you could wind up giving him some much needed ideas for what the heck to actually do! He sure does look to be struggling don'tca think smile
