I was just about to toot my own horn here in the forums because I had wonderfully acquired 600 followers.  I double-checked my profile and to my horror, someone had abandoned my ship! sad
So I thought I'd ask why other hubbers choose to un-follow writers...What's your take?

Did you hunt them down and ask why? smile

      I wouldn't take it personally.

There's a saying that "If you love something, set it free.  If it doesn't return, hunt it down and kill it."
Guess I'll get out my .357 and go ahuntin'

I follow people for several reasons.

      a) They have a personality that oozes through their writing.
      b) They're well informed
      c) I'm curious about them.
      d) They're kind, helpful people (well, to me, anyway).

I would stop following them if they said something nasty to me, or if they posted a few that was so contrary to what I believed that I couldn't come to terms with it.

Might be that they have abandoned 'the ship' not abandoned  following you. smile

Well done on the 600 by the way.

I'd never stop following you, Lorlie smile

Well, I've only ever unfollowed a couple, and that was because I realised they were smug, ill mannered, pretentious and arrogant, in a very, very big way. I won't have anything to do with such people in offline life, so why should I follow them online?

    Congratulations on 600 Followers!

well, I recently un-followed some hubbers becoming tired of their sales hubs.[some of them are great hubbers] I also got rid of all of my spam following. If I follow someone I read their hub. I still follow too many hubbers and always try to take a brief look at their hubs at least.

Well, I cannot follow somebody who already has 600 followers or more, feels overcrowded. big_smile

Wow!  Hubbers are such amazingly supportive folk.  We are one helluva group of nutz-love you all...smile

If a hubber hasn't contributed to the community or written a hub in a long while (months), this might be a reason to stop following -OR- if a hubber thinks they are following too many and needs to reduce the quantity so not to get penalized for following an excessive number of people. Your hubs are great, so I can't imagine it being anything against you from a loyalty standpoint; most likely a mistake.
BTW, 600 is a ton of followers, congrats!

Occasionally these spammers will mass follow, so you can lose followers when Hubpages ban em!

    Well Done Loz

Oh yes! I've often wondered about the ghost followers. Are they Hubbers who haven't surfaced properly, or Hubbers who have died whilst trying to follow?
