I was wondering if anyone has either anecdotal thoughts, links or evidence about web search habits when people are searching for images.
For example, when users search for widget images, which terms are they more likely to use?
"widget pictures"
"widget pics"
"widget photos"
"widget photographs"
"widget photography"
"widget images"
I would think that research has been done on this and posted somewhere before????
When searching for a picture I'd type "widget" and then click on 'image search'.
Day, from my experience on my website, Google image search captures photo keywords like "red crayons" or "chocolate mousse cups". I did a case study using meta keywords as image keywords
< image alt="insert keywords here" > and turned out to be amazing!
Hope it helps. James
That helps James.
I was trying to do just that, optimize my alt tags with the most likely key phrases.
right on.
another tidbit is using the article title as the ALT in images.
If someone searches images like "food on a stick in Shanghai", an article published by one of the site members pops up and pulls all the images in the article with those keywords (less the on, a, in article words -in essence Food Stick Shanghai). If the image is over 200px and good quality, people will click on them immediately.
also try combining a generic(high-competitive) keyword with a non-competitive keyword, which gets them at both ends.
Another update:
I spent a little time researching this topic using the Google keyword tool.
I searched for a variety of generic terms such as "dogs", "cats", "horses", etc.
So, far, the image-related term that I found most often and highest rated was "________ pictures".
If anyone has more data that would shed light on this subject, please post your input.

First you find an image online you might like to use in an article. Save it to your computer and rename it using keywords. Upload it. Then add an image title and caption. Assuming you use keywords for all of that, would you consider it over optimized?

Hi all. I just started this thread because I need some advice on choosing keywords. Sometimes when selecting keywords, I choose the keywords with about 200 global searches a month but not much competition. This is good and I rank very well for those keywords but I feel that I don't get enough...
