      Yes you can, and then your Hubs will be flagged as duplicate content.

   Duplicate content warnings should not appear if you publish on HubPages first, then wait awhile before you post the articles elsewhere. You may get a copyright symbol alert on the hubs for your own protection, but no penalties should be applied in this case. Still, it may be a bad business decision due to search engine rankings, so original content is better.

      Original content is King here in HP, as it is with Google. If Google discovers duplicate content, it doesn't matter where the content originated; the original author is potentially penalized by HP and by Google. Google doesn't sort out who published first, and HP follows Google.
      
      Duplicate content warnings will appear on the HP member's account page, whether he/she published first on HP or not.
      
      It's left to the original author to sort out the transgression and find a remedy. Pity that.
      
      I'm glad my Hub topics aren't the most desireable among text thieves.

         I don't think that I am wrong or giving mixed messages at all. Material first published on HubPages, subsequently elsewhere, will not be penalized by HubPages, but may well be penalized in the search engines.

         Relache talks about plagiarized content, but it makes no difference: What matters as far as duplicate content penalties is where the material was published first, not who legally owns the content. HubPages cannot see whether copies elsewhere belong to the Hubber or not.

            Material published on HP which is also published elsewhere on the Web is penalized everywhere.
            
            It does an author no good to duplicate content on the Web, and that is the point. HP and Google set the rules.
            
            It doesn't matter if you publish here first; where you publish the same content next will not only reward you with a flag here on HP, but also will destroy your credibility.

                  I know the thread you pointed to. There is a difference between plagiarism and duplicate content. However, to in any way encourage a Hubber to duplicate content on another web site by saying that it's OK if you published it here first, is wrong.
                  
                  Plagiarism and duplicate content have blurred borders. If you want to be credible on the net, stay away from these gray areas.

                     I have encouraged no such thing and would appreciate it if you would stop insinuating that I did. However, the FAQs on duplicate content that you quoted initially concern the situation where material is first published elsewhere, then duplicated here. It does not concern the situation where the material is first published here, then duplicated elsewhere - whether through plagiarism or not. I think the OP is entitled to know that the rules on HubPages are different in these two situations. This post marks the end of this debate for me.

   You can rework your content to give another point of view. It's
   really easy and takes less effort then creating from scratch, (if that's what you were trying to avoid).
   
   Hubpages will pick up on copied work, so you'll need to make it original even if it's similar to the content you have here.
