It's snowing and I am getting almost no work done and grinning like a fool. My eyes keep darting to the window to make sure it hasn't stopped yet. I am itching for enough snow to build a snowman and might just get it today! I keep jumping around like a small child who has had school cancelled every time I get up to make a cup of coffee and am even starting to warm up (was cold when I got out of bed this morning). I LOVE SNOW!

    SNOW BALL FIGHT!

That looks very much like our back garden!
I just got back from a walk around the neighborhood and down to the shops. Got a few bits for ourselves and a neighbor who gave hubby brandy! tongue

I didn't have my camera tho sad
The batteries were dead and I didn't put them on charge early enough but I suspect I can get great pics tommorow just as easy and maybe even do my own snowman up at the park big_smile
        Had a snowball fight too!

I really love the snow! People are so friendly and aware smile
We took our yak trax with us and put them on after we finished our shopping and everyone was looking at us putting them on. I wish I could add my affiliate ID to my verbal patter! I probably sold a few for someone smile They are really brilliant for the slippery bits in the road and such. I actually wrote a hub about them (shameless self promotion tongue) that have already sold lol

This weather can stay for a little while as far as I am concerned! lol tongue

Snow is awesome! We had a couple of inches where i live. It was enough to make a snowman, sled, and have a snowball fight.

It's almost a white out here in west London. It's crazy snowing atm!

When it stops snowing and the sky clears enough to let the light through its going to be great for snowmen and sledging and such yikes big_smile

That is the one thing I miss most being away from the UK! I love snow too - even though when I was a taxi driver it inevitably meant breakdowns, bumps and quite often the inability to work which when you are self-employed is disastrous.
The cold isn't a big issue when you are in a heated car or even better a heated house, looking out on a winter wonderland!

As I brush off the snow from Kirsten's well aimed snowball....

It has stopped snowing here for the moment, but central Watford is gridlocked with traffic.  Motorists don't seem to get that if they are having trouble on the roads in a town centre it is going to be a lot worse back home, so probably best to get there while they can!  Both Heathrow and Gatwick are closed, so as usual the UK is grinding to a halt!

Do you ever notice that even when snow and ice is forecast well in advance, the excuse the councils give for not getting the gritting lorries/snow-ploughs out in time is invariable "we didn't expect it"!

  5. kirstenblog profile image78
    kirstenblogposted 13 years ago

We have the news on and again its "Frozen Britain" LOL
One announcment was that there were jack knifed lorries everywhere, so ran to the window to see one lol
I didn't hear the part about it all being on one road and I thought the presenter could probably apply for a job with Fox wink

I really don't get the whining, the snow is pretty and fun and we knew this was coming for a while now. We knew it would be back when the last lot was melting.

Gonna have to go to the shops soon and you know what, I am looking forward to it! Going to have a snowball fight wink lol

Here in Canada of course, snow is a regular occurrence. Here's a scene on my back deck from yesterday. We've had a bit more since, it's now about 7" (18cm).

Sledging - sledding - yet another variation in the English language between English English and US English.

Umm - Please do explain for the rest of us.  "Fanny" in the US usually means derriere, right?  What does it mean in the UK?  Or can you even type it in a forum reply?

Well in the US it is a polite enough word for ones back side right?
Move to the front of the body on a lady and now you have the UK reference yikes
                  Ones front bottom wink lol

We got a couple of inches here in NC and EVERYTHING closed down: the school (for two days) some shops, etc.  It was ridiculous.  Having lived in Alaska for 3 1/2 years these 'snow' days are a joke.

  14. ThoughtfulSpot profile image70
    ThoughtfulSpotposted 13 years ago

Every year my fellow Pennsylvanians forget  how to drive in snow.  We had up to 16 inches last year, and we muddled through.  Thursday night we got a dusting and a 20minute drive took me 2hrs w/ accidents all over the place. roll

  15. Aficionada profile image78
    Aficionadaposted 13 years ago

kirstenblog, I'm with you.  I love the snow!!! and I'm so excited that we have already gotten a bunch.  Not as much as Alaska or Canada or Minnesota, but a decent amount and a number of different snowfalls too.

I saw that about 800 airline flights in western Europe had been cancelled because of the snow.  Not fun for the travelers, but a lot less un-fun than a plane crash.

And hey, Denise and jenniferain, don't be snide about the places that only get a few inches!  big_smile  Of course, it's a big deal to those places when it's so comparatively rare.  Wouldn't you make a big deal, if Alaska had a heat wave of 100+ degrees (F.)?  wink

I remember when Pres. Obama had recently been inaugurated and scoffed at the difficulty the people in DC had because of a snowstorm.  Well, of course they won't be as prepared for it as Chicago was/is!  What should anyone expect in a subtropical climate?

This country is getting more bizarre by the minute - for some reason they reckon that they will be able to get just one flight out of Gatwick tonight despite the snow to Sharm-el-Sheik at 10pm.

Why Sharm? Is that shark getting hungry or something???

And if they can get one plane off the ground, then why not more?
