I recycle paper, cans and plastic. I use a fair amount of recycle materials.  I use my own bags for groceries, and different stuff like that.

What do you do to help keep your carbon footprint down to a bare minimum?

In your opinion, is it worth the trouble?

considering the amount of people and living creatures on our planet, I think it only makes sense to recycle whatever we can. we recycle paper, even junk mail after I tear off our address or personal info, glass, plastic, metal cans.

we don't use bottled water, we fill jugs at a spring near our home. it's set up with spigots. cost .25 cents.

I was just reading an interesting article about a 'go green' campaign spearheaded by the secretary of Navy in which the Navy and the Marines are building a strategy to 'out green' Al Qaeda and the Taliban and the world petro dictators. it's worth a read.

I don't take two planes to INDIA...3,000 people, cars, and ONE Helicopter...But seriously...I do pretty much what you do...I also walk to the stores, whenever I can...Is it worth it?  Truthfully, I think our planet is on its own chartered course...so let us enjoy life a little...recycle, but don't go crazy!

Whatever I can do - I live out in the country and only drive to town once a week or so.  I recycle and try not to buy too much packaging.  I am on a personal campaign to reduce the stuff in my life and so not buy new stuff, it is very difficult.  I don't live a very high-end life and feel better this way.  I think generally speaking, most people feel better and are healthier living a greener lifestyle.  Our system is gradually changing, I don't know if it will change fast enough to prevent the death of huge portions of the planet. I can only hope.  If they try to drill anymore offshore along the Pacific coast, I will get into the demonstrating and whatever one can do against it.  I am totally against shooting wolves from planes and helicopters!

...for a looonnng time, i've refused to buy bottled water........ahhhhhh...it drives me crazy that people buy bottles of it all the time...over and over....not thinking about where all those plastic bottles go..after they drink their 8 ounces or whatever the measurement is......check out what your water is like where you live...it's probably good to drink right out of the tap and if not, get yourself a filtering system.....or if you absolutely must buy it, use those gigantic containers and fill 'em up....you can reuse them over and over...

I do pretty much what everyone is saying - I've been using reusable bags at the grocery store for a long time now - Makes it easier to carry anyway!  Definitely think it's all worth it...

BUT... I must say that I buy bottled water (sorry!!)  I drink two each day, and (this may sound crazy, fair warning), after I drink the first, I'll fill it from the tap, freeze it while I drink the second bottled water, then retrieve the frozen water and consider this cycle until I fall asleep... about six bottles later.

Also, I'm a teacher sooo I do tend to reuse those bottles for projects with the kiddies - Hope that makes me sound like a better person!! tongue

I quit using the drive thru for any food, pharmacy, or wherever has one. If everyone would stop wasting so much gas sitting in a drive thru all the time, this would go a LONG way.
