to be honest i do not have that many following me.......  Your smile and input into forums will help.... Also take a genuine interest in others writing.... I do.  I am lazy about writing hubs, poor financially... but loads of friends, a bit like in real life....

Find the thread of a new game i have just started, boys girls first name, and add to it, then i will follow you.......... it goes like that.  x

It takes time, focus on writing hubs really. You have four hubs and you joined 8 days ago. You cannot compare yourself to someone who has been here for 7 months with 44 hubs. Participate in the HubPages community regularly and followers will come. The more you focus on getting followers, the less likely they will come.

It goes hand in hand. Even if money is your goal, you will need to improve your writing skills along the way. In the end, you will have achieved both.

Thanks Joy, very nice of you.

Money is certainly a driving force, although I obviously want to enrich people through my teachings and help to save the world so we can all whatever together.

As of yet, I don't even have an Adsense account (probably am going to, but things keep getting in the way), so it's definitely not the money.

I'm here for feedback. I write short stories and I hope to improve my writing by 1)writing more, after all I have people to write for now and most of all 2)by learning from the comments I get, be they quite few...

I'm working on a novel at the moment, and I have a short story series version published on hubs and blogger, I hope that the responses I get will help make the developing book more suitable for publication. It's better to keep feedback in mind now, than when it's already done.

It's a fantasy novel about four brothers, of which three upon touching a strange book are transported into another world, where they are pretty much at the mercy of their youngest brother, who they picked on a lot and now becomes the narrator (+/- ex nihilo) of the story they got caught up in...

I have great hopes for the project.

Is it working for you? I'm just wondering.. you have 100 hubs in 7 weeks. That's a lot but are you indeed earning money?

      1. ThomasE profile image68
ThomasEposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Reasonably well, yes. Nothing to write home about yet, but I made $60 on Amazon, and around $10 on adsense in the last three weeks.

Not a lot for the effort? Well, no, but while I want money, I don't expect it to come quickly.

In any case, in the long term, my plan isn't that Hubpages will pay me; it is that I learn to write sales copy that sells.

I.e. not make money online, so much as a new skill for offline.

Ok, thanks for your answer smile I think the skills that you learn as you go along are far more valuable in the end. If you can write good web copy, that's a skill you can apply anywhere. If you ever start a blog or a website, it's still useful in this digital world.

Why am I on HubPages?  World peace through domination. big_smile

Mostly money, but I also enjoy the writing and helping people with informative hubs.  One commenter said he got a 95% grade on a recent big exam from studying my hubs - it's a good feeling.

If I were heere for the money I would have left. Doesn't mean I don't want money but so far I haven't made any.

I am basically here because I am a writer and need a place to write. So far it suits my needs.

I am here to help other understand and learn from my writing. I am certainly not here to make money although it would be a nice bonus but not necessary.

    To make friends

    To learn

To read other hubs from great writers.

To pass my experiences along to others to hopefully help them.

I'm on here for the challenge and challenge to me usually means trying to beat my previous month's earnings which I have been successful with for the most part. However, challenge also means trying to become a better and faster writer, increasing readership, decreasing censorship, etc. which all play into the earnings factor of course but are challenges too in their own rights.

I'm here so that I have a forum to write about the things that interest me.  I have a part-time job writing for a content mill that pays pretty well, but I'm stuck writing about what they want me to, in the format they want me to use.  I can come to Hubpages and write about my hobbies, share family recipes, or anything that crosses my mind.  If I keep it up, one day I may start seeing some income from my articles here too, which would be nice, but isn't everything! smile

I always wanted to have a blog where I can write everything, and Hubpages is exactly what I am looking for because it challenges my writing flexibilities. Then I enjoy this interactions with fellow writers all over the world, Thru HP, I learned or still learning to write substantial hub even in a short period or time. And lastly, when I saw my first Dollar thru adsense... I mean just by doing my hobby, I am earning unconsciously... and that encouraged me even more..
