Awarness raising hubs

   I have this hub I wrote a while back to raise awareness of the dangers of legal party drugs. I wrote it after seeing a show on the dangers and lack of any real understanding of what the dangers actually are. It was enough to make me think that illegal drugs are probably safer. Anyway this hub gets very little traffic as it is not a topic that people are searching for all that much. I have not deleted it because, well why would I do that! If over its life it touches one person and warns them off these legal party drugs it has done more then my top traffic getting hub (possibly)(hey my round brackets are working again, didn't on the last post I made).
   
   Well I just had a comment on this hub from a person who is suffering big time because of legal powders. I don't know if he will go for medical help, I do hope so, but from his comment he feels very alone and like he has no one to turn to. I am sad for this person but happy that my hub was actually out there to be found.
   
   I write shameless product promotion hubs and info hubs with the only aim being to earn something. I also like to write awareness raising hubs, I guess it kinda balances out the sales writing.
   
   I wonder if anyone else writes to raise awareness of different social type issues? Maybe we could kinda bend the rules about posting links here and allow links to hubs that raise awareness? I mean, if people knew to look for those hubs then they would not be raising awareness as the awareness would already be there. Posting here could help generate a little awareness right off the bat. What do you guys think?

      Hi Kirsten. At the moment I have one awareness Hub to use your words in progress about an organisation that works with homeless youth. If it was not for them, I would have been dead in a gutter somewhere many, many years ago.
      
      That Hub has been put on hold while I gather more information on the (incurable) medical condition that I have been diagnosed with, both for my own benefit, and for a Hub(s) explaining what the condition, what it does, diagnosis, treatments, etc.
      
      So, yes, there are others writing awareness Hubs. Would this be the right forum for sharing the links though? It might pay to contact the HP Team to find the best place to avoid links being snipped.
      If you get the go ahead, I am in

         I may have to go ask Maddie then! It seems I am not the only one who likes trying to use hubs to do some social good
         
         I am sorry to hear about your condition and hope there are good treatment options out there?
         
         I expect a hub will help lots of people so I guess I best go email Maddie and ask if folks could have the HP team blessing to post links for awareness hubs

   I have also written a few "awareness" hubs.
   You are absolutely correct--even if the hub score dropped and had very few visitors, if it helps just 1--it is all worth it.

   I try to earn money and raise awareness at the same time. For instance, my latest hub is about how to apply for a US passport. It has links to outside sites and is definitely meant to earn me money from people who are trying to get a passport fast and will pay for expedited processing. But at the same time, I mention that if you are a US citizen and are passing through Arizona, you might need a passport. So that is tangentially making people aware that it's US citizens who will end up paying with their hard earned money for this required "proof of citizenship". I also mention that a birth certificate isn't really very good proof for many citizens, because some were born abroad, some were naturalized, and, anyway, being born in the US doesn't make you a citizen if your parents are foreign diplomats on active service. A passport is better proof, but it costs you lots of money to keep a current one.
   
   I hope to raise consciousness at the same time as I earn money.

         I did read the OP. It started out specifically about problems with drug addiction/abuse and hubs related to same, and then it became more general, about all sorts of social issues. It also mentioned shamelessly promotional hubs that intend only to earn money, and how the person posting segregates her hubs into those two categories: a> earn money but do no good and b> do not earn money but do good.
         
         Then she suggested that we bend the rules and allow links for those hubs that don't earn money but do good.
         
         My reply was in response to ALL of that. First of all, your hubs don't have to break down that way. You can do good and earn money. Secondly, it would be counterproductive to help people who pitch self destructive products to get traffic by writing other hubs that bemoan the damage that is caused by self-destructive behavior, and posting links to those hubs. If you don't feel good about the products you are pitching, then find products that are doing good to pitch.
         
         On top of all that, the best traffic seems to come from those hubs that sell a legitimate product and also have something to teach readers. So my suggestion, in response to the OP, is that having an integrated approach to earning money and doing good might be the way to go.
