Well, I have decided to build my own website. tongue
    But..........

~I have no credit card, no paypal or anything like that and I am from Bangladesh
~So, I need free domain and hosting and I have no idea about what these things are. mad
~I am interested in wordpress; it's a content management software, right?

Now what to do? Is there a dependable source where I can go for free domain and hosting?

Will it be better for me to concentrate on blogger rather than website?

My HTML skill is near to ground. I only know the very basic steps of forming a webpage.

I am a quick learner and I will learn everything you advice me. Just tell, please. smile

If that ever happened you'll still own all your own content.

I've got a few of my own sites. Built on different platforms. I also use HubPages and other sites.

When I have a new idea I think about who the audience is, and how much time and effort I have to devote. And a lot of times I come back to hubpages. It has everything I need. If I have a niche I want to explore, I'll create a new hub profile.

What is it that you want to do with a blog? Will an audience find you, or will you be hard pressed to find them?

Before you decide to build your own website you must first decide what that website is going to be about.

What is it that you're going to write about?

      1. saleheensblog profile image61

hmmm, I have thought of some niches. Well I would better create more hub.

Can you purchase a Visa prepaid gift card? Not sure if they are available over there, but it would allow you to change your cash on hand into plastic.

I believe you can put however much money you want in order to charge it. Have no idea about the market samurai. As a matter of fact, I have no idea what that is?

A visa gift card will work just like a credit card, but you need to load it with a set amount of money. For instance if you put $50 on it, you can spend $50. Or if you load $80 onto it, you can spend $80.

If i'm not wrong then Visa gift card is available in many countries where Visa is officially supported on bank debit cards.

Instead of visa cards you can connect your debit card to alertpay or liberty reserve and then sign up for domains from registrars that accept money from google checkout, liberty reserve and alertpay. One such popular domain registrar is gossimer.

I do not recommend a free host website. If you can't buy your own hosting and domain name you might as well just keep making hubs.

In fact you will always make more on hubpages than any free site as Hubpages basically IS a free site.

I make some of my websites using Adobe Dreamweaver, then I upload the index folder onto my sever Purplecloud. Purplecloud costs me around £40 a year for domain name (.com) and hosting. It is good because its a one off payment!

    thisisoliposted 13 years ago

Your best bet is probably a prepaid visa card. If that won't work either then you can explore other free sites similar to Hubpages like (Shameless plug) This is Freelance, or set up a blog on blogger.

    saleheensblog,

One of the best choice for free webhosting is blogger: as long as you never violate Adsense TOS. You'll be able monetized using Amazon affiliate as well, but then it's still no difference than Hubpages.

    @ saleheen,

I have purchased a few domain names from an India based reseller, which accepts payments thru netbanking - you just need to have a netbanking enabled account - you don't need a CC.

Most of the registrars also accept PayPal - so that is an option too.

You cannot get free domains anywhere, except as a part of a hosting package. The cheapest .com domain that I have ever purchased cost me less than USD 3. Otherwise, .co.in and .in domains cost less than USD 2, at least for the first year.

For hosting too, there are a lot of resellers that accept netbanking.

But you can get free hosting - on blogger.com.

I would use blogger over wordpress.com (blogger is more advertisement friendly). It would be more ideal to buy your own website though!

skyfireposted 13 years agoin reply to this

No affiliate links are allowed on wordpress.com blogs. You can't add other ad banners on blogs as well.

Wordpress.org is hosted solution on your hosting, you're free to do anything with it.

By the way, If you choose blogger.com blogs first then you'll have some issues with permalinks later on while moving blogs. But as far as content is concerned it's very easy to import from blogger to wordpress using plugin.

Issues if you want to remove your blogger.com to another site - Skyfire?  What type of issues are you referring to.

The reason I ask is that I recently switched a blogger to a .com and its still hosted on blogger.

          1. skyfire profile image79
skyfireposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Issues are related with permalinks and Images.

For example, with blogger if you set URL structure like this -

            yourdomain.com/12/2010/good-bye-2010/

and want to change in wordpress to something like -

            yourdomain.com/category/good-bye-2010/

Then migrating to new URL structure will result in loss of traffic and SE indexing. It'll take time for Google and other search engines to crawl your new structure.

Images are also tricky one to settle. You can't keep images on blogger when you move to new host and once old posts are wiped out, blogger keeps eye on incoming images traffic. So you have to manually update every post in wordpress for images when you do the migration.

There are some plugins which also let you import images to wordpress upload directory but so far i didn't find any working blogger importer to solve this issue.

Don't know about the free issue, but as for the content management system, there are a few other alternatives you might want to try out, as well.  If you just want a blog and maybe some extended functionality Wordpress is great.  If you are looking for more of a community feel, then I would recommend Joomla or Drupal, although there are other options out there as well.  Joomla has an incredibly large community of developers, so there are a lot of extensions to work with.

I just wrote a hub about creating a community with Joomla, if you are interested.  (Just click on my profile to find it...)  I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have!

Saleheen... Sell me via email on what you are trying to achieve.
I have hosting facilities, plenty of B/W, a stack of excellent domain names and all the C-Panel and Building tutorials you need to build another HP if you wanted to.
Drop me a line and convince me why and how you need to do this - Professionally. I'm even happy to work with you... but show me why I should and 2011 may well be a very good year!

2011 is the 2nd prime number year of 21th century. 2 stands for 2 person that are you and me. As a prime number it's unique on it's and worth celebrating with a big bang!!

If I split the number 2011 here 2 is symbolizing you and me, 0 means no chance of failure, 1 means we will come up top and the last 1 mean uniformity between you and me.

I am from a low lying reverie country that is a potential source of pearl. I am one of the brightest latent pearl of the country and only a pearl-diver can discover it.

So, I am the right person for you in year 2011. smiletongue big_smile lol
