They've been screaming about this for months, but of course, it still hasn't happened yet. And THE SENATE, the more important of the 2 Congressional chambers, is still under DEMOCRATIC control.

And many legal experts have said that the constitutional challenge will fall flat on its face.

Repeal won't work, accept as a PR ploy.  Their best move is to deny funding for as much of it as possible.

First off, the Senate is not the more important of the 2 chambers. Secondly, the republicans are right to repeal this monstrosity! My hope is that it gets to Obama where he is forced to veto any repeal!

ladylove - I don't get this response.  You say the repubs are right to repeal but you hope the pres. vetos the repeal?

If the house votes to repeal and the senate goes along, but the President repeals. It will fuel the fire and strengthen the Tea Party Movement. That's what she's hoping for.

That's exactly right! It puts the president in the position of again having to SHOVE his agenda down the throats of the people. It shows he doesn't care about anything except his agenda! Hopefully it takes away some of the points he made in the lame duck session when republicans turned their backs on the electorate and handed Obama unnecessary victories!

    Here's another one:

"Elizabeth Warren, the Obama administration appointee now establishing a consumer financial protection agency, plans to name the wife of General David Petraeus--the top American general in Afghanistan--to a new position tasked with protecting military families from predatory lenders, according to sources familiar with the planning.

Petraeus's appointment is aimed at empowering the agency to target abusive lenders without running afoul of Republicans in Congress."

See how pathetic this is? They have to appoint a Republican, otherwise the person would be labeled a commie-infiltrator, muslim-socialist  who wants to destroy America.

Not saying she isn't a good choice--in fact, she really seems perfect, but how long do we have to keep placating the bullies???

Yeah, heaven forbid that Obama have anything other than Democrat lapdogs in positions  of power.  Both Bill Clinton and George W. appointed people from across the aisle to positions in their administrations.

Man,, you know it has gotten bad when I'm thinking about the Clinton era as "the good old days"....

Repealing healthbill adds 140 billion to the deficit over 10 yrs acording to CBO.

Dick Chenery: "Reagan showed us deficits don't matter."

    Reagonomics and Bushco on steroids.

    It's the end of America.
    Get ready for Madd Maxx.

lady_love158posted 13 years agoin reply to this

How does repealing a law that costs 2.5 trillion dollars INCREASE the deficit?

That is simply a LIE! The only reason why Health Care would REDUCE the deficit (which is not the national debt BTW) is because it raises revenues through taxes in a greater amount than what is spent. And BTW, that is only true if you ACCEPT the cost estimates which we know are NEVER EVER overstated.

lovemychrisposted 13 years agoin reply to this

It's based on a 10 years projection. it will save 140 billion over a ten year period.
And since you are worried about taxes going up....who do you think has to pay for that tax bonus?
Rush gets to make 59 million instead of 57. Who do you think has to make up that 2 million?
It's China. And, "the grandkids, the grandkids". We borrow--they pay.
So, you not liking your money to pay for healthcare for all Americans PALES at my not liking my kids having to pay so Rush can keep 2 million more of his 59 million.

Here is the truth about taxes from my state...you can look up your own:

"Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, Third Edition, November 2009, "Who Pays?, A Distributional Analysis of the Tax Systems in All 50 States"
        p. 58 A disproportionate tax burden falls on the lowest income people in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who pay: lowest 20% earning less than$20,000 pay 10.1 % of their income in state and local taxes; the 2nd lowest 20% earning between $20,000 and $41,000 pay 10.1%...; the middle or 3rd lowest 20% earning  between $41,000 and $66,000 pay 9.6%....; the fourth 20% earning between $66,000 and $111,000 pay 8.8%; the next 15% earning between $111,0000 and $243,000, pay 7.7%...; the next 4% earning between $243,000 and $683,000 pay 7.1%...and the top 1% earning over $683,000 pay 4.8 % of their income in state and local taxes.

[ii] Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez, "Income Inequality in the united States, 1913-1998," Quarterly Journal of Economics 118, no. 1 (Feb. 2003), pp. 1-39. Updated data available at http://elsa.berkeley.edu/ saez/.

This whole idea that the rich pay more is a scam!
And this "new" Congress will take all their "cuts" from the lower incomes, on that you can be sure.

Do you even know the difference between state and federal government? What you posted was State tax distribution of MA which is a state that HAS universal health care!

Again, the 140 billion dollar savings I already pointed out is BOGUS!

Whether Rush keeps 2 million or 50 million, the fact is that it is HIS money, not YOURS.  What part of that do you fail to understand?

If you can go out and provide a service or talent that people want to pay handsomely for, you have the freedom to do it.  Then you can sit back and give away all of your salary and live on a hundred bucks a week if that happens to be your kinky inclination.

You are not entitled to a dime of Rush's income or mine or anybody else's you care to name.  Period.

Newsflash - there is no public option. Government's takeover of healthcare as you call it is really government providing new customers to the private insurerers. Take a look at the stock market - specifically health insurance companies. Their stock actually surged when healthcare reform was signed.

Why ate you so eager to give control of your health to a greedy corporation?

If government screws with us, we have power. We can vote, we can get things right.

People get screwed every day by health insurers.  Often they can do nothing.

This is NOT gvt run healthcare!!
It's healthcare for 250 million Americans who couldn't afford it before. It's stopping Insurance companies from denying you care because of a pre-existing condition... Which included pregnancy btw--for you anti-choicers out there.

It's making sure, as of Jan.1, 2011, that 80% of what you pay in goes to your care...rather than profit and ceo mega-salaries.

It's an assault on human decency you Repus are waging. IMO

So I guess I should be able to wait and buy auto insurance after I wreck my car, right?

It's an old comparison, but still 100% on the mark.

Since when is it the government's place to tell private business who they must do business with?

      1. lovemychris profile image77
lovemychrisposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Since when is it private business to decide who will and will not receive healthcare?

How much I will or will not pay for  my food, my clothes, my heat, my electricity, my phone, etc etc etc etc.

You don't like giving money to gvt, but you have no problem putting it in the fat pockets of fat cats.

LMC, your wealth envy really is a thing to behold.

And yes, I'd much rather see money go to those who have worked to build businesses and provide services as opposed to a government that can't do anything with any degree of efficiency.

I'll never understand the mindset that willingly hands over its freedoms to the federal government, and does so enthusiastically....

What insurance company is going to sell you fire insurance when your house is on fire? Answer, none. What happens if the fed makes them? They will go out of business. Then the government will have no choice but to go into the health insurance business.

C.J. Wright - guess what, the insurance companies have competed for years for biggest  health insurance customer  in the US.  But to offer your products in this market, the insurance companies MUST agree not to deny coverage based on a pre-existing condition. They fall all over themselves agreeing to the condition you say they can't endure.

I am part of that big market - as a mailman I'm a federal employee, and I select from the same menu of health options as US Senators. (I pay more, I suspect)  The insurance companies do just fine with the stipulation.  They have for decades. And they make money or they would not compete for my business.

        1. DTR0005 profile image60
DTR0005posted 13 years agoin reply to this

Excellent point. Health insurers do trip over themselves to get a chance to suckle at Uncle Sam's teet. And the industry was publicly "disheartened" when health insurance reform passed into law. Behind closed doors, it was like Christmas and Easter rolled into one. Why? Because they just got x million more customers. Insurance is all about large numbers, larger pools of risks (patients.) And yeah, that is how insurance refers to patients as "risks." Insurance stocks soared last March with the signing. But like everyone else, the insurance industry wants something for nothing in much the same way American citizens want all the services with none of the cost - taxes. The insurance industry wants to "dump" all the bad risks into government insurance pools (Medicaid, Medicare) and keep the cream for itself.
