With all the problems I have been having lately with not having a job, unemployment running out, and spending time in the ER with a sore jaw, I don't need any more problems.
Well, I have high speed internet through Comcast, and for the last few days it has been slower than dial-up, and almost every website I look at comes up with broken images, and it just takes forever for pages to load, when it used to only take a few seconds.
I use Google Chrome most of the time, but, I tried the other browsers and get the same response. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this problem? My partner spends a lot of time on the computer, and I am wondering if he might have latched onto a virus.
Comcast shows that I have 4 bars, which is about as fast as you can get, so I can't figure out why it takes more than 2 minutes for pages to load, and they never load completely no matter what site I am looking at. I don't pay for high speed to get this crap.
Anyways, I will be out of town for the next 2 days. I have to take my brother back to his doctor in Ann Arbor, which is another pain in the ass. So, if you have any suggestions on my internet problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Wish I could help
Sounds fishy tho, could be you are right about it being a virus. On the other hand I know in my area internet providers often advertise and sell high speed that never happens! They have gotten in trouble with trading standards for it but they still try to get away with it when they can.
Have you tried calling Comcast and asking them? They could have a local slow-down for some reason - repair works or whatever. Perhaps they have a component failure that they don't know about?
I tried trouble shooting Chrome, but, there isn't much help there, their troubleshooter isn't specific enough. The pages seem to load faster, but I still get a lot of broken images. half of the pictures and videos on my hubs come up broken. It's really annoying. I hope this eventually fixes itself, it's been going on for a couple weeks now.
Ha! I can totally sympathize. Comcast is the worst -- both their Internet service and their customer service. The only reason I still have them is because ATT UVerse isn't available in my neighborhood yet. I've actually had way slower than normal service the past week as well, but just assumed it was my hardware.
A few questions...
Do you have a router hooked up to the modem?
Have you done a hard reset of the modem (ie unplug and remove the batteries)?
Do you have any virus scan working in the background?
Do you have any browser add-ons like Lazarus working in the background?
I have a wireless connection, with a USB port plug-in wireless adapter. (I guess that is what it is called) I used to have no problem with it, It's is usually lightning fast, but, even when it seems like I have a great connection everything is slow, and images and videos come up missing or broken.
I used to be able to watch all my videos in a couple minutes, now it takes close to 20 mintutes just to watch one. Also, I notice a lot of the adds on some pages are coming up unavailable as well.
You might try hooking up to some one else. Perhaps at an airport or something. It might tell you if it is comcast or your router/modem or an overloaded computer.
My computer is a desktop. The only reason we have it hooked up to wireless is be cause we have no cable access in the room it is in, and there is no room for the computer desk where the modem is located.
Our apartment is only 800 square feet. 90 percent of it covered with stuff, and just enough room to walk around. We hate it here, but, it's better than nothing for now.
The first thing you should do is hook up your cable modem directly to your computer. If you notice a big improvement, then you can start to troubleshoot your wireless connection.
Also, here is an article from MS that has some other good tips.

Boy, it took me several hours to write one hub today. The edit and save-edit functions have been a pain in my rump all day. I can't figure out any particular pattern, just that a lot of times when I go to save an edit, the save doesn't work and my hub goes pale - cannot click...

My capsules sometimes save and sometimes - well most of the time do not save. I click and click. I refresh the page. I change browsers. But still I cannot finish creating a Hub. This is extremely frustrating. Any thoughts?

For the past few days I have been unable to edit the text in hubs. As soon as I press 'edit', I get a message saying "Something went wrong. Please hit refresh and try reloading this page." I press 'okay' and the page loads up. Even if I reload, the same thing happens again. If I try to...

Is it a good idea to back up my hubs?I have heard stories where people were banned from hubpages for no reason? So it is a good idea to keep copies of my old hubs on my computer or do I have nothing to worry about? I haven't break any rules or anything to my knowledge.
