Westboro Baptist church to picket the Arizona funerals. Angels coming to defense. How many think it should be the Hell's Angels? Coming to smash the Baptists to their knees?

As I replied to your question in the other section, neither group should be there.
And if the Westboro group shows up, the police, not the Hell's Angels, should make them leave.

Up until this very moment, the police would have had no authority to make them leave.

Finally our legislators vote against rather than for hatred.

Actually, Ron, it's the progressive liberal wave of hogwash that caused the police's hands to be tied.   When libs can do and say anything they want under the guise of freedom of speech (like gay pride parades and such), then the Westboro Church surely must've decided it could do and say whatever it wanted to as well.  And that's fair.   But common sense and social morality isn't about being "fair"; it's about making and upholding correct policies.  If citizens had continued to be held to a certain level of public decency on all counts, the Westboro Church would've been handcuffed and marched off to jail long ago.
So, there's the result of your favorite kind of thinking---liberalism.   And so now, a new LAW is being made to counter the former new LAWS that should've never been made into LAW to begin with.
Such nonsense!  We're being inundated with legalities stacked upon legalities.   That's the ball that started rolling when the moral foundation of America started being undermined.

Baptists...should be shot for perverting a fine, if somewhat archaic term. Do they really think they are following Jesus? If anything, they are on the path they are on so the rest of us would be darn sure of who to avoid and whoose concepts and values are so blatantly screwed up. I don't even see those people in line. “A biker boot to the head a few times would make them think twice about doing it again.”

      “Baptists...should be shot”

“Don't worry. All such dinosaurs are up for extinction. Didn't y'all get the memo?”

Westboro has as much support as the shooter of those poor victims. I don't think angels will show up. I think a hell of a lot of angry people will show up and there might be a little violence against them. And if that's so, all I think that is, is karma. Good karma.

I don't hope for violence for anyone, but the writing on the wall is that they are begging for violence against them. And, as evidenced by dosters' link, I think that's been verified already. That was really my only point.

You're right, Jeff. Pity is what they should have, and they shouldn't have anything else. But humans are humans and it's easy to see the problems the Westboro group is creating for themselves. I was just pointing that out. No one controls karma, but I've observed some patterns about it.

But you have to understand, they really do want people to be violent toward them. Fred Phelps was a lawyer (once a very prominent civil rights attorney). His children are lawyers. His grandchildren will become lawyers. The moment anyone is violent toward them they sue, and they are successful. Some have argued that the family doesn't even care about the issues they protest; they're just trolls looking to get punched so they can sue. Municipalities across the country have paid settlements to the Phelps family for failing to protect their civil rights. Even the new Arizona law passed to protect these grieving families will likely be challenged at the Supreme Court level if it's ever enforced. The best thing that can be done is to ignore them.

Thanks for pointing that out again. I mentioned it earlier but I don't think a lot of folks got it. I believe they have only LOST ONCE, most times their defendent settles! The case lost was a suit brought against them, even still the judgement was overturned on appeal.

I like the idea of the Hells Angels showing to to peal the heads of any Westboro protestors. All the police would do is arrest them and all they would get is a fine. They would raise the money at their next church service to pay the fines off and be back at it. A biker boot to the head a few times would make them think twice about doing it again.

I'm a little confused by the need for a senate bill here, to be honest, and am more than a little intrigued by the 58-0 vote in favor.

Doesn't the law already restrict when and where you can stage protests? Shouldn't the city be able to control where crowds can gather within its limits?

Assuming there's a good reason for this to require a senate measure, I have to wonder: if this had not been on the heels of this tragedy, and the bill were a generic item allowing the restriction of protest around specific areas, would the bill have passed unanimously? I don't object to the provisions of this specific item, but I am leery of legislation hastily passed in situations like these.

If you have ever done any research on these clowns or better yet had any direct dealing with them you would know: THEY LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE ATTACK! That's how they fund their little hate filled road trips! They incite, you attack, they sue. Their leader is a disbared lawyer. While he can't practice law, he certainly can file a law suit, and he does.
They go to funerals holding signs like "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and "God Hates Fags". They offend and upset greiving families. It's sick. People began gathering at the families request to create "human shields" to stand between the grieving family and the Westboro creeps. In the past the HA has shown up. Their mere presence was enough to back these people off. If you would like to know more about groups who routinely go to these funerals to shield families look up "Patriot Guard"

these guys are extremely violent....so hopefully they don't show up to protect anyone....especially at a 9 year's old funeral...when they have killed a child themselves....and have killed many, many people through their brutal turf wars .... i just see them as violent thugs that i have no time for and would not feel safer with them around.....

Well, I was thinking more on the lines of SAMCRO from Sons of Anarchy. The "Angels" that were planning to show up were going to wear some kind of wings and they were going to stand between the WBC and spread those wings to shield the funeral from the WBC. This is a great idea!
I dunno, I think the WBC people need to be taken down. They are extremely offensive and even dangerous. Just like the Branch Dividians and any other militant extremist group, someone should do something about them.

What's wrong with these vile people of the Westboro Baptist church that makes them want to protest at funerals and spread their message of hate? They have not a speck of common decency and there is no love in their hearts. These are evil, hateful people who should be shunned and ignored and not given any significance or publicity by the media. When the media hypes up their presence at an event, it's just exactly what they want. They love getting under people's skins and the more drama the better.

One can only hope that someday a real church will drop on them and there will be nothing left but a bunch of nasty signs and a few pairs of ruby slippers.

I'm probably too late in making this comment specifically for the victims of the Arizone tragedy, but here's a thought - bear with me...
These westboro schmucks are so stupid that they annonce their intentions so far in advance that the people they are about to harrass (yes, it IS harrassment no matter who says it isn't) that it gives these folks time to get legal documents set up to prevent these idiots from making things tough for them.

Shoot, battered wives, just as an example, don't anyone get their knickers in a knot, are able to legally have restraining orders placed on their abusers, right? So why can't the Westboro targeted individuals? It's what I would have done.

"It is here declared, this day of (date) that the Westboro baptist church cannot come within 100 miles of anything tragic, devastating, or heart-wrenching otherwise they chail be jailed for no less than 30 day to allow for inmate recreational activities."
Yeah, that was crude, I admit it. I have nothing but loathing for these cretins. Still, they are dumb enough to announce "Hey, here we come to say we're glad your 9-yar-old daughter was murdered" then WE can set up a court document saying "Try it, buffons! I dare you!"
    Just my opinion.
