I am deleting and spamming a lot of comments which to the commentators site - usually an external one. I would often let the comment thru if it wasn't for the link - but without the ability to edit comments its all or nothing - can we look at adding the ability to edit comments which are not are own but are on our hubs ?
I don't think it would be a good idea to allow the writer of a hub to selectively edit comments. Here's why: In many debates, a single word could make all the difference. I don't think that the hub owner should skew the message that someone left. It's better to let them delete the entire message if it is truly offensive than to allow it to be subtly or not so subtly altered.
A "kill the link" button would work for me. As for having the ability to edit comments, would be nice to take out hard-core swear words, because many times the rest of the comment makes a good point. As it is, the only option is to delete the entire comment, which I've only done twice because of offensive language.
I vote in favor of a "Kill the Link" button, but against taking out swear words.
I just think if we start editing content, the poster's true intent will be lost.
I agree with a kill the link button. I too have deleted a number of comments do to a link within the comment or within the person's name.
I favor Kill the Link button. If allowed to edit words I'll delete your comment and put a favourable comment but with your name.
Ngureco, I agree. There are a number of ways editing specific words can be misused. The one you mentioned is just one of them.
All links in comments have nofollow applied to them. They may still be annoying, but they provide little benefit to the commenter on an SEO level.
I don't think it's a good idea to allow comments to be edited, even just to remove a link, but we'll consider adding an option to the comments capsule that will allow you to prohibit links from being posted in the first place.
Paul, if I read you correctly, that would that mean that we would enable or disable "link-keeping" across all incoming comments, rather than have the ability to keep or toss an individual link. If that's so, then we might be shooting ourselves in the feet when commenters include links that enhance the Hub, while we've disabled "link-keeping".
I agree with you and Aya that comments should not be edited by the author.
Isn't there a feature in the forums where you folks keep the post but replace an inappropriate link with words something like *link deleted*? I realize you control that replacement from your end, but I think it would be a great feature for Hubbers to have.
Interesting debate - WordPress has the edit comment feature standard.
I rarely edit my blog comments - usually cause I rarely got them, well didn't until a few days ago! I do sometimes edit cause someone left out a word like "not" when they clearly meant to use it.
I know links are nofollow - but Yahoo doesn't recognise nofollow so there is some SEO benefit.
I have no desire to edit anyone's comments and just delete those ones with spammy links. The ability to edit out their links seems pointless because they only commented hoping to promote themselves anyway. To me it is easier to just delete the comment and move on.

Is the comment system button to be restored to hubpages.discover.com? And, how long should witers at hubpages patiently wait for the restoration?Given the fact that it’s restoration to hubpages.discover.com is a priority in the minds of many writers here.We all expect it to be. Forget the comment...

Someone left a bunch of wikipedia links in a comment on one of my hubs. They were relevant to what we were talking about. I would rather not delete the comment unless I have to. However, I'm also aware that mass-linking, especially to wikipedia, can be a problem. Do google and other search engines...

Is it ever justified to delete reader comments?Do you ever delete comments on your Hubpages? Sometimes we get inappropriate or over promoting comments on our hubs, how do you handle the situation?
