      I really don't care if Nancy Pelosi sits on John Boehner's lap. The pretense of civility is not civility.  The basic premise of representative democracy is rejected by many Tea Party activists. How often have they declared on this forum that The United States is not a democracy. How often has the GOP used the filibuster in the last two years to block a majority vote on legislation we NEED.
      
      It will be nice if the POTUS is allowed to speak without being called a liar by some elected lunatic. Far better, if we actually work together with constructive compromise rather than indulge in divisive rhetoric.

         Maybe not being divided physically will lead to not being divided otherwise. I don't see how this could hurt!

   Maybe they should mix the seating up in Congress like they do in classrooms. You know, separate unsavory pairs (or blocs) and force them to sit next to someone other than their best friend.

   True.
   You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
   You can lead the Congress to civility but that doesn't it changes how they think!
   The action needs to come from the people themselves.

   I'm not a fan of Debbie Wasserman Shultz, but I have to give her kudos: she called up her best GOP pal and asked him to sit with her. We need more of this!
