.....the gap between ordered items and shipped was caused by a big load of returns - how sucky is that.

Ungrateful people returning their Christmas presents!

How's everyone else doing this January.

I feel for you, I've had a lot of returns recently too. Jan is still looking ok for me on amazon though, considering that my traffic hasn't been great.

If that's your amount of refunds, your amount of sales must have been awesome in December.

My numbers have leveled off last week from their seasonal highs, and have seemed to settle somewhat above what they were in October, so I'm happy about that. This was my first Christmas season, and I wasn't sure what to expect.

Couple of returns and the first couple of weeks of January were slow to say the least, but it's picking up a bit now and hopefully will continue that way.

Plus the sun's been out today here in Bedfordshire and that always makes things better.

2011 may be my year- actually sold 5 items on amazon compared to 0 last year- so maybe things are on the up.

Cant imagine why they have returned so many pressies- really annoying!

I actually did not receive a single refund this Christmas, was pretty shocked!

    Sorry Spacey. That's so terrible.

This January is awful for me. sad Only six items shipped so far. No returns for my Christmas sales YET. Keeping fingers & toes crossed.

How gutting Spacey! Luckily have only had one return so far - Jan sales not as good as Dec, but still OK considering my traffic has been so low.

If its any consolation Spacey, I had 40 items ordered in December (before Christmas) that never shipped - among which were some pretty expensive items.

Over and above that I've had two returns so far - a kindle and its cover both of which I lost about $10 on (it helps when they take off 4% after crediting you with 7.5%!)

I have lost $40 in commissions this month through refunds, which kinda sucks, but I had a good month so can't complain... just makes January look even worse than it is hmm

lost myself $5 from video game returns. My big sales are still in tact.

Amazon is way down for me. Adsense about half as normal. Guess my types of sites are the last place people think about in Jan.

Hubs I don't even think about since I only have 30 and get hardly any sales. hmm

I've sold 16 items so far this month and expect to make about a third of what I made in December.  One refund (a bra - I suppose it's the kind of item that's more likely to be sent back than almost anything lol)

It's best to compare January stats to October. If your business is growing, you should be ahead of those numbers and Janary of last year - unless you've made a biz plan to be very cyclical. But the easy money has ended.

Thanks for that Nelle! I wondered how many months back to go before a comparison could be made.
In that case, my Amazon earnings are up 50% this month smile

I haven't had a return yet, does that mean the item gets shipped and can be returned in the future and money is detracted from your earnings?

Sadly, yes.  Which means it's possible to start a new month with negative earnings sad
