What are your favorite films of all time, and why?  Someone asked me this question and I really had to think because I had several, but I finally came up with two answers.

Better Off Dead - funny comedy from the 1980s starring John Cusack.  I loved it growing up and it has stuck with me.

Forrest Gump - just an amazing film with the right mix of comedy and drama.  The cinematography and acting were tough notch as well.

Clerks - it started a great string of comedies by Kevin Smith.

Evil Dead- Sam Raimi also showed early brilliance and launched into a bigger career.  Bruce Campbell is very underrated as well.

I have to go with Forest Gump, Tom.  It was superb on so many levels.

My top ten favorites (and this was hard, believe me):

      1)  Brokeback Mountain.  This film broke my heart.  Although I'm not gay, I thought this movie brought out into the open what many gays face, and have had to deal with, for many years.

      2)  E.T.

      3)  The Godfather

      4)  Schindler's List

      5)  Ordinary People

      6)  Shawshank Redemption

      7)  Dances with Wolves

      8)  Chicago

      9)  In the Heat of the Night

      10)  Forrest Gump

I would have to say "Philadelphia" starring Tom Hanks & Denzel Washington.Hank's portrayal of a lawyer dying of AIDS was superb and  Washington as the lawyer lashing out at the head of the law firm demanding, "ARE YOU GAY?" was unforgettable.

Another favorite of mine is "Planes,Trains, and Automobiles" starring Steve Martin & John Candy. Their chemistry is not only excellent, but totally hilarious! Can't help but laugh every time I see this movie, esp. when Neil (played by Martin) says the f-word 17(?) times! Too bad I never saw this in the theaters. I've seen it only on DVD.

      Hi Genna

Platoon is my favourite because it was so honest and powerful with great character interaction and drama. The actors were terrific and most launched their careers big-time on that movie like Charlie Willem Dafoe, Johnny Depp, John C. McGinley, Forrest Whittaker.

I also like Braveheart, Some Like it Hot, Citizen Kane and anything French and most Woody Allen movies.

That is such a tough question - I love so many movies for so many different reasons. I love most of the movies listed here, Shawshank is one of my all time favorites, I also considered A few classic horror movies, but for me the one that sticks out is Fight Club. There was something about that movie that really moved me.
