Is there any value in linking to your own hubs within OTHER hubs and your profile page, in terms of search engine page ranking?  Any advantage at all?  I've seen a lot of people do this.

If this is a silly question, please forgive me; I'm still relatively new here.  Thanks.

Yes there is its possible for people to visit other hubs and google will relate your topic with other relevant hubs that you have listed. Just make sure your linking hubs in the same genre.

For example you have 10 hubs on fitness then interlink all of them that are similar.

Yes, there is an advantage. Common-sense would dictate that relative hubs should be linked, so as to enable your reader to continue on your hubs and you get more impressions, and possibly more clicks.

Does it have anything to do with PageRank, I would say yes, but I am not well versed in SEO techniques, as many others are. I know HubPages overall benefits from the internal linking of hubs, either you linking to your own or linking to others.

Again, I am not sure how it works though. smile

Yes there is a benefit in terms of seo if you establish the correct architecture when constructing your internal linking structure.

      This is a simple example for you;

Write 10 hubs on the same topic.
Place article one with your main keyword at the top of your triangle of articles.
Place 3 articles beneath it with similar keywords but longer tail and link from your main article using anchor text to each of those 3 articles - so 3 links to 3 articles from article 1.
Next place 2 articles beneath each of the three - so 6 articles in total - link from the 3 articles using anchor text - so 2 links from each article to the articles related to it.
Finally, link with 1 anchor text from each of those articles back to article 1 (by-passing the second tier of articles).
This creates a strong internal linking structure and helps to retain link juice.

      Hope this helps.

Can/would you share a bit more about what you mean by "anchor text"?

Anchor text is generally used to describe words which are hyperlinked.

Awesome suggestion Neal!  I'll have to try that!  Has that worked for you?

Yes it works. It's tried and tested. If it wasn't I wouldn't suggest it...

I rank at No 1 in Google using this technique for highly competitive terms - I backlink also but this has certainly helped and the seo guys out there (who know their stuff!) will know that it's a tried and tested technique.

          Glad to be of help..

thank you for such a visual description of linking hubs.
I'm going to make a sketch of that for my own files.

I link mine that relate, but I really like this system. smile

This is great, I'm going to try this as soon as I finish the rest of my WoW related hubs.  I'll have about 20 so I can set up two trees like this.

Yes there is.  I'm not an SEO expert, but I have a few websites and interlinking within the pages of each domain (not necessarily with each other) has been highly suggested to me by more experienced webmasters.  I assume that it is no different within Hubpages.com itself.

Additionally, it seems that the more activity you perform, the better for SEO.  Thus, more forums, comments, and hubbing.  Not only are people seeing the link to your profile are likely to click on it, but the probability of search engine bots crawling your profile page increases.  Your profile page changes as you do more things in Hubpages.  And search engines like dynamic content.

Definitely interlink your own articles, not only does it pass link juice, it also helps by sending your visitors to where they are most likely to buy a product, or click an advert.

I keep doing this all the time interlinking all my articles as most of them are about the mind .  So far I have benefited from this.

I have one question here- is there such a thing as too much linking?

  7. brettb profile image60
    brettbposted 13 years ago

Yes! Do it! Link all your Hubs together!

You should also link all your other sites to your Hubs (and the other way round!)

If you write 40 interlinked Hubs in the same niche then you can completely dominate that niche.

Wow brettb I didn't know that... thanks for that information.

one way links are generally regarded as having more value than reciprocal links, so sometimes it is best to plan a link structure rather than link everything to everything!

      1. sofs profile image76
sofsposted 13 years agoin reply to this

oli can you shed more light on this. I take it like this one link from each hub to the other no crisscrossing ... is that what you are saying.

        1. thisisoli profile image70
thisisoliposted 13 years agoin reply to this

An example would be if site a links to site b, and site b links to site a the links will have a lower 'value' in terms of SEO.

I always try to interlink my hubs and it is well worth it! It is also useful to the reader if they are on the same subject.

This is some great information. I have been linking my hubs out of habit anyway, but I am going to try that method Neil mentioned above and see the results.

First of all, there are no silly questions. Secondly it is very important to interlink your hubs together. Besides it helping with page-rank and giving your hub value, it will get you additional traffic. I have found it is good to have at least 5 hubs grouped on a common topic.

Besides in-text links, an RSS feed of your hubs is also good.

Wow great stuff in these answers for a newbie like me for sure.  I thought I read that there was limit to the number of anchor text you could have in hub.  I'm thinking it was 2.  Is this correct?  If so that would seem to severely limit the linking capability.  Am I wrong on this?

      1. lrohner profile image69
lrohnerposted 13 years agoin reply to this

There is no limit on internal links in a hub. You can also have as many outbound links as you want on a hub, but no more than two to the same domain.

Hi Chemist -- Go to your profile page and click on the RSS Icon underneath your picture, then copy and paste that URL into the RSS capsule in your hub.
