Duplicate Content?

   This sounds stupid, but there are no stupid questions, right?  In that spirit, if you publish a hub here first, can you re-publish it somewhere else without consequence?  I mean, will HP consider it duplicate content?

      HP won't consider it duplicate content, BUT the place where you publish it will see it as a duplicate. And as Google seems to be cracking down on copied content, it won't be a good idea to put your blog under penalty threat.

         They say, "Duplicated content you own the rights to is permitted on HubPages, as long as it is not accompanied by promotional links."
         
         This applies even when HP is the first place to get the content published and later it's posted somewhere else.

            You don't get it. People will post copies of hubs on their blogs, and you think HP will mark your hub as duplicate for that?
            
            I have hubs which have been copied elsewhere on the web, they didn't get the duplicate warning and why should they?

               The system keeps checking for duplication and it marks the hub as duplicate once it finds the content somewhere else. It has nothing to do with the date of publication, if the content is not unique to HP then it's marked as duplicate. I got this clarified from the HP admin when it happened to me.

   I have duplicate content hubs, one or two I accidentally duplicated myself and one which is copied content from the web. (a quotes hubs).
   It has affected my hubs score as I used to reach 100 no probs, so for that alone it is bad. Not that I worry bout hubberscore.
   
   I posted already this evening, I have hubs which have moved into #1 position in that last couple of days since January 30th when Google apparently started implementing their changes.
   
   These hubs had original content.
   
   I am assuming that the other sites may have been pulled down in the rankings allowing mine to pull through - theirs maybe had duplicate content?
   
   So its not as if my hubs are that great, but they were original.
   
   So yes I can see that if you post your own writings elsewhere on the net, you will be penalised one way or another.
