Getting Clicks but no Buys on Amazon

Last month, I got 37 clicks with no sales from Amazon. Does anyone have any wisdom about how to increase the conversion rate from Amazon? I mean, they are obviously interested enough in something to click on it, but not enough to buy. I wonder if it's a lot it being January, too.

January is apparently a bit slow, many experienced hubbers have commented on that. However, you need more clicks. You're getting clicks and that's a good sign, but you need more. You get more clickers by getting more viewers, more traffic.

Keep going. Keep learning. It's building. They will come. Patience and perseverance are key.

You should see my conversion rate, I've had over 900 clicks and only 2 sales!  So I wouldn't worry yet.  I've given up worrying about it!

LOL you sound like me!  It's a bit frustrating though.

37 clicks isn't a very large sample. It's not uncommon for people to see 370 clicks without a conversion (although that would certainly be considered underperforming). If you got a conversion on your 38th click and your commission was $3, you'd be earning almost 8 cents per click average, which isn't terrible.

37 clicks is not much, as your impressions improve you will begin to see earnings.

    Hey, Prairieprincess...
When I was only 3 months in on HP, I think I made about 2 sales, as well, don't remember how many clicks I had at the time.

My following month was much better, enough to earn a payout (Amazon payouts are 2 months following)...and from that point forward, I at least reached payout each month.  My first payout wasn't huge, but it was encouraging, a couple of months later, that doubled, nearly, and the next, doubled again.

From that point, I've increased anywhere from 6-20% every month, other than the drop from Dec. to Jan., but I was still up about 20% compared to my October earnings.

Some of the things I've noticed...if products arent the highlight of the hub, I don't get many results.  Throwing a crockpot into a capsule with a recipe doesn't do much for me, for example.

Keep writing, and trying things, and try writing some hubs that specifically deal with Amazon items, without restricting them to a certain holiday or season.  It seems like if you have a good balance, you'll have some hubs to carry the weight when specific seasons pass.

As I've done more hubs, I've had more frequent sales.  It just takes time, and work, and I'm just following things I've learned by reading and studying, myself.

    Good Luck!

      Maybe this will help.

In December my conversion rate was around 10.71%. In January that fell to 4.74%.  That means that for this last month I averaged 4.74 items sold per 100 clicks.  The trick is that some people will order 2, 3, or even 4 items from you. So with 37 clicks at that rate you could expect between 1-2 items ordered, but you just have to find that "golden clicker".  Keep at it smile.

So now I close in on 1000 clicks I should in theory have sold about 50 items?  So how come i've only sold 2? sad

Are your hubs product related or do you just stick them in?

Both, I would say about 1/3 of my hubs are what I would call sales hubs, the rest are just info hubs with a few amazon caps in there.  I suspect the latter is where most of my clicks come from, thus not resulting in many sales.

I've looked at your hubs, and I don't see anything wrong with them,I think you are just having an unlucky spell.

              It happens.

I'd write sales hubs in a different niche for a while to see if that helps, but if you are seeing regular clicks, sooner or latter you will see sales.

I had a look at 'Try a Cube Shelf'. All those bold phrases sort of scared me- is there a reason for them?

Also-I would avoid big blocks of ads. They alienate readers who might only be looking for ideas. The softer you sell the better you will do.

Give at least a hundred words to every Amazon ad and I reckon things will go better.

Thank you, Will, for looking! I just use the bold phrases to emphasize keywords. For the Amazon ads, I was trying to give some ideas to the reader; each ad has my individualized description. I suppose I was using the ads as content, too, if that makes sense.

      Thank you so  much ...

I have never made anything with Amazon so don't bother adding ads from there in my new hubs because I am sticking to eBay and Google Adsense which do generate money. Why Amazon doesn't work for me I really don't know. I know a lot of hubbers make money with Amazon ads but I don't know how.

Amazon is my ultimate money maker. Sold 4 things already this month which is way awesome! I dont have much luck w/ Adsense or ebay so Amazon works. Everyone has different results as we all have different viewers and subjects. But when you find you niche' - run with it!!!

Thanks everyone for your responses. I guess my conversion rate isn't bad, when I hear about other people's. I had a 1:4 conversion rate in December, which is great. I do need more traffic, and I need to get some more hubs going, too. Slow month for me, but I will just keep at it.
