It's really sad when people start to only post on your writings so they can gain more traffic to their site with no general interest in your writing and no actual true criticism to give to help you improve as a writer. Just wanting you to take look at their site and you to take an interest in their work. Why can't people just respect the sanctuary of work and at least try to give some kind of criticism whether good or bad. Actually read the work and respond to it. Not just be interested in their own benefits. Like how I am almost certain someone will use this forum to do the same thing as I just mentioned above. It's upsetting that people can take something as great as Hubpages where you are free to post your work and have it read, admired or critiqued and than change it into another media and money driven place that destroys what I can believe is a thoughtful comment or just another shameless desperate person trying to find someone to look at their work. Please let me know how you feel on this topic and maybe ideas on how we can try to change this and make it a place free for writers to write and communicate to other writers about their writings truthfully and help each other grow as writers.
I agree with rebekahELLE: set your comments to require your approval and just deny any obvious plugs. That's the high road that takes slightly more effort because you have to manually manage all your comments.
The low road would be to simply take advantage of their plug to advertise yourself on their site, but most of us wouldn't do that as we prefer to promote ourselves when it's contextual. Time and place for everything, and all that cliched jazz.
Speaking of constructive criticism: I may be alone in thinking this but seems to me that your post could benefit from at least one paragraph break. Few people like a massive block of text. I know this is just the forums, but with online writing I find it best to practice proper writing format every single time you write so you don't accidentally develop bad habits.
I deny comments with a shameless plug. The hubber will get the message if those comments are denied. I'm sure I've let some slip through, but I've noticed they're happening more often now.
I had one yesterday from someone who had just joined. I'm sure they didn't read the hub or the learning center.
I agree. We are free to deny comments whenever we wish. I have only had to do this once....thank goodness.
Hi RE,
I didn't read the learning centre, in fact still haven't, but it's obvious that just plugging away is bad form. And pretty obvious that the comments section is for comments about the hub. Same as the blatant follow me, follow you nonsense. It all means that it just becomes meaningless, pointless. Which is a shame.
As I say, I did not get this from the learning centre because it should be obvious to anyone.
Squidoo has 'strip-out HTML from comments' feature so i guess HP should implement similar here.

Why do people post hubs without a comment section?Every now and then I come across hubs with no comment section. Are these the result of simple oversight, or perhaps people not familiar with the various elements you can add to hubs? Or do they just not want to interact? It seems odd... blogs and...

It would be interesting to be able to see the Hub Hop ratings on my hubs - this will help me understand what areas I need to work on and which areas I am doing well on....

First, apologies to Tori since it will SEEM like I'm picking on her HotD - I'm not. These featured hubs need to be touched by an editor if Hubpages is ever going to be taken seriously as a 'real' writing site.1. The Title is Wordy2. Restain should be re-stain3. FIRST sentence, misspelled word:...

Be it not for me to speak ill of a fellow Democrat, but Hillary Clinton disappoints. Please read the articles, I confess that Salon is a left leaning publication, but I have included the article placed by H. Clinton in the Times of Israel to provide a little heft to my position.Bernie has courage...
