It seems that they very well could be, maybe other religions are included, I wonder why this was even included in a bill.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/exemptions.asp
Snopes considers it a mixture of fact and fiction.
But the bill makes no mention of Muslims!
No, it doesn't mention Muslims.
But a lot of Muslims are opposed to insurance because they consider it gambling.
Do Catholics?
Lutherans?
Baptists?
Ect?
Well I know a lot of Catholics and none of them seem to have any problems with gambling.
Kind of narrows the religions down doesn't it.
We know some Muslims consider insurance gambling.
Maybe they all do.
So which religion is this exemption aimed towards?
Why does the exemption even exist?
"know some Muslims consider insurance gambling."
That's because it is....
You must have really bad insurance.
I never have a problem with mine.
No problems. Insurance is gambling. You pay an insurance company 100 a month so that you don't have to pay 100,000 if the situation arises. You pay a bookie 100 to win 100 if your predictions are correct. The difference? With insurance you bet against yourself. That is the intent of Insurance, hedging against disaster. That's NOT how American's have come to see it. They see it as a way of NOT having to pay for health care cost.
LOL, I was just about to say the samething. BINGO!
i think that the sheer fact that there's still so much utter confusion of what the bill actually does - almost one year after it's passage - shows us that, not only did our representatives NOT READ IT, but that it's a pile of garbage.
Obama sure as hell didn't read it, no one in Congress did, either.
Who wrote it?
The insurance companies.
Jim I believe that most religions already enjoy an exemption from healthcare rules. I also have heard that unions have received an exemption but haven't checked into it. Typical Washington, pass a law that affects everyone and then open offer exemptions for future votes. You might notice that I didn't say the right. This is a problem we have with both sides.
No kidding. Institutionalized gambling! We call it "the rhythm method!"
From what I understand, Muslims would have a hard time getting the exemption, because they don't have a history in the United States of rejecting Social Security taxes and payments and they don't generally challenge insurance policies that are required by law.
If an individual sect of Islam in the United States does reject insurance as a form of gambling, they would need to show a history of this and they would need to show that they have existed (as a sect of Islam) since 1950. I'm not sure if any sects of Islam in the United States would be able to do that.
This exemption will likely only be applied to the Amish and other similar groups.
Agreed. There are many new Islamic immigrants since 9/11. They may also have a claim. The key is that they NEVER make a claim against SSA.
