What are your views about chating among hubbers on hubpages?Should or should not ?

I would go "should not" because I want the site to retain a strick distinction between being a social networking site and a writing community.

To me this would be just another step towards being a social network, like Facebook or Myspace. Personally I still think that the site can offer more to writers and affiliate marketers in terms of potential revenue, which chat isn't going to achieve.

If they are going to heavily invest time into anything then I would prefer it to be exploring possible additional quality control measures or new revenue streams smile

Just my two cents though. I doubt that I would use the chat feature, ultimately most people have an IM program such as MSN or Skype, or Facebook, which they can use to communicate with people that they become friendly with on here.

I still prefer email, as with IM I often feel like I am intruding on a busy person, with email you throw it out there and they can read and reply when they see fit.

we are writers and we aill be.. with chatting we may share more on hubpages  with our hubpage friends, followers ,beside we will get social network features within same site.work+fun on single site.:-)Yes you are right email is great but for instant reply from other hubber nothing can beat chat

Whilst that is true, I can think of nothing worse than turning my chat on and subsequently being bombarded with requests to chat by over 2000 followers. It is bad enough on Facebook when 20 or 30 people are online.

With chat you elect to either be 'online' or 'offline', I would never ever turn my to 'online'. If somebody has a question to ask there is the facility to do so.

If you become friendly with a Hubber in some way and want to chat instantly then swap IM details. Writing on Hubpages is already labour intensive for me as I get 50-60 comments and several questions per day, the last thing that I need is to become a 24 hour online support worker clarifying instructions from my 'how to' articles which were only written to earn me a few dollars.

On-site real-time networking sounds like social networking to me, and besides it will only be used as a means of bitching about people anyway; it would be 24 hours before somebody posts a screenshot of something which somebody else says in confidence.

Hubbers either choose to be contactable or not to be contactable, via their email, how many online newspapers do you know that offer the ability to chat to their writers? Instant messenging is only ever provided on websites other than social networking sites for one reason: To sell something.

I lost interest in chat rooms sometime around 1996, so no, I don't want a chat feature here. If hubbers really want to get together for a chat, there are any number of other services available to do it.

No, absolutely not. I think HP should not include such a feature. We are here to write quality content, not to chat and let time go.

I am completely uninterested in chat.

I ignore almost all chat requests that come in by Gmail or Facebook.  The only ones I MIGHT pay attention to are close friends and then only to ask why they can't just call or email.

I would not use the chat feature, it would be too distracting when writing here at HubPages.
