A while back I started to push a sponsor that sells cat trees. I made around 4 sales pretty fast with them.
Then I found out they carry them in Amazon. So I made a big product page of them (this is in my own site) and changed all my links to the Amazon ones.
As of now, 3 months later, I have not had a single sale from them! So I am changing them back to the original sponsor.
I think the fact that Amazon only has a what, 24 hour cookie plays a big part in it. Most sponsors give you a 15 day or even 60 day cookie.
In fact I'm sure that a good 50% of customers that visit Amazon through your links go back in a day or two later, buy and you don't get the sale.
So, don't use just Amazon, use other sponsors too. Most people buy a day or a week later when they see something. With Amazon, that means you don't get the sale.
Understandable Bill but the question is how does this pertain to "Hubpages Knowledge Exchange" when we are only able to use Amazon or eBay capsules?
Isn't this more of a website owners information? Does this really apply to HubPages writers.
I do see your point, although not everyone has the time to create websites as yourself.
-Edit-
Oh you CAN use other sponsors on hubs, all kinds of them. You just can't use capsules for them.
You can put any other sponsor links in your text. You can even put pictures with links to sponsors in your hubs.
That is why I put this here, because hubbers can use other sponsors, and should.
Ah Ok thanks for pointing that out. And good advice. I guess I had my blinders on this morning.
I do follow quite a bit of tips and helpful suggestions you have to offer. Thanks for the reminder.
Maybe I need to look deeper into other sponsors. I haven't had much luck with CJ (commission junction) in the past.
I enjoy following your ways of thinking out of the box (capsule) lol Bill
Thanks Have a great morning!!
Glad I can help. You have a great morning too.
Now that theme is something that I'd like to see someone expand upon a great deal. I'm afraid that I'd joined too late to get in on the e bay thing; and that pisses me off, and so does the 24 hour cookie; so mostly I work for adsense. . . .
somewhere out there I saw a top ten affiliate networks to use with hubpages
http://hubpages.com/search/include:hubs … e+networks
i would recommend that anyone who wishes to know more, starts with this hub.... I have bookmarked it in my file as really really good- there was not enough room to add more superlatives or I would have done
Its a time issue. Tracking down and registering or applying for affiliate programs is just pain. Amazon is easy and you can always find a product to promote for any niche.
To be honest, 4 sales one or the other is not going to matter to anyone.
There is also the issue of keying into what sells on Amazon. Only certain products fly off the shelves. Ignoring the poor sellers is the first lesson.
There is also the very real issue of not putting all your eggs in one basket.
Good points, Bill.
How'd it work out adding the amazon ads to your retail page? Or did you? I wondered about that one at the time. Seemed like a shame not to try and cross-sell all that lovely traffic, but I understood you didn't want to muddy the waters.
Hey there Pandoras Box! That is working out very well actually. The way I am doing it really makes those pages rank well.
I admit Amazon has many items that you just can't find a good sponsor for. Like, I made product pages for Disney snow globes, Harry Potter wands, Legos and all that.
It's hard to find other sponsors that carry that stuff. So I will keep adding product pages that show very niche specific items from Amazon.
However whenever I can I will also make product pages from other sponsors. This Christmas is going to be good for me!
Bear in mind you are only allowed two affiliate links per page on this site- unless they are Amazon or EBay, courtesy of the capsules.

I am seeing the kind of traffic I used to get a few years ago after pages have been moved to niche sites but I'm getting a fraction of the Amazon income. There are a lot of factors involved but a main suspect for a significant part of this issue this has to be the replacement of Amazon capsules...

Hello Hubbers!I’m reaching out to inform you of an update to our product guidelines. Previously, we had indicated a preference for in-text product links over Amazon Capsules, but we are updating our preferences to Amazon Capsules over in-text product links. Here is the new language we will be...

I like to add in-text links when I'm talking about certain products as I not only think they are some of the most effective, but also some of the most helpful. What I don't understand is why there is a limit of 2 in-text amazon links whereas we can make a slew of Amazon links using the Amazon...

Hi all. I have set up Amazon Affiliate program on hubpages and featured Amazon products on a number of my hubs. Looking at it after a while, the link-type report in the Amazon account shows that no one has clicked on the products so far. I wanted to know whether this actually works, so I clicked on...

I am yet to successfully publish any articles with amazon products. I am trying to be clear on the requirements for these articles. I thought articles should be limited to 1-2 products, however I have seen list based articles with multiple products (ideas for gifts) on niche site, Holidappy. Would...
