A forum post is equal to words you say. Therefore, you cannot take back what you speak. It is out there and should remain to do so.

To grant anyone power to delete forum posts longer than Hubpages does already, which is 4 hours or to delete all posts? which would include posts longer than 4 hours old, makes no sense. wink

A forum post is similar to words you say, but not equal. You can not undo the audible vibrations in the air that were produced when speaking, only because it's a physical impossibility.

A forum post reflects a response to a given thread at a given time. People's opinions and how they express themselves are entitled to change. It's HubPages decision because it's their forum.

Well, you might see it as "your content" and if it is yours, you should have the right to delete it.

Of course that makes holes and may make other folks replies meaningless or gibberish, so it does affect others.

But that' like saying I can't delete a hub because someone else has linked to it, isn't it?

As I never bothered to read the TOS for the forum, and I'm sure most others never did either, I have no idea who owns these words, but I bet it is HP.

      ...

      Maybe not:

“Author Content”: Any content, including without limitation questions, answers, forum posts, ratings, votes, and Hub comments, that Authors post on the Service other than on the Author's Hub, and all photographs that Authors post on the Service (including on the Author’s Hub).

There is a Russian saying: 'a word is not a sparow if you let it go, you won't be able to catch it'.

That's a great expression and you can't catch words.  But I couldn't in all honesty catch a sparrow either.

I don't wish to delete my forum posts. However, I would like them all to be magically rewritten so that my true omniscience and persuasive brilliance will not be questioned lol

I'd like most of mine deleted because a good number of them result from a caffeine (and associated word volume/speed) overload.  Then, when all the caffeine wears off I hate that my name is associated with those long posts.  lol (I do have some respectable and non-embarrassing two-liners, even one-liners; and I'd like all of them to stay - just so people know I'm capable of two- or one- liners once in awhile).  (..but, oh - a person can do some much typing and writing when he's loaded up on caffeine.  roll )

Actually, it is kind of time to make another half-pot full  lol - or else to make the half-pot full and then go to sleep (I can't sleep without my coffee).  (Notice that this post here is just a three-liner??   lol   )

Nor would we be able to point to those who admit to gaming Google.

Not thinking of anyone in particular, of course.

I must admit, I've often found some of my forum posts a little embarrassing when I look back. I think it would be nice to delete or change some of them. But if we all did that, the threads would be in shreds, and none of them would make any sense anymore, although some never did, anyway.

The forum is public. To retract a lot of what one said awhile ago is a spineless and selfish act, in my opinion.

Lisa HWposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Well, then..   I, for one, retract what I said above about wishing some posts (not particularly anything I've ever said in them, but the posts, themselves  smile ) could be deleted.    Oh wait..    it would be spineless of me to retract what I said, or change how I was thinking.   Never mind.  Everything I've ever said, including the above post, can stay.   smile   (but I do have to say, believe me, removing anything I think ought to be wouldn't be a selfish act.  I would be showing great mercy to anyone who runs into some of those posts.  smile    I was only looking out for the greater good.   hmm   (but also me)

I was not aiming my comment at Lisa HW  or anyone else. Not at all. Purely making a general point. Getting people to respond on the forum, then pulling content after awhile, is unfair in my opinion.

Perhaps people find it easier to pull comments rather than apologise for statements that are later found to be erroneous or in bad taste?

Q: Why did you say what you said when you said it?

A: Because I meant what I meant when I meant it!

Q: Yes, but why did you have to say it?

A: Because I thought what I thought at the time that I thought so.

You know…, deleting all forum posts would mean:

    A.    HP wouldn’t have to buy any new servers for a year.

    B.    HP would be immediately ungoogle-slapped, what with such a large chunk of all the nonsense suddenly gone.

    Yes it would. smile

    PS

This insight of mine is so brilliant that I’m sending a bill to HP.
