Disable Links in Comments

   I know we have talked about this before but unfortunately I have a specific situation for the request.  Here is a comment with an imbeded link in the comment - unfortunately I could not approve the comment without the link.  It would be helpful to the author to allow the full comment without the link.
   
   "Gma Goldie has never sought nor been provided with permission to use any image from http://www.nextcar.com.au Therefore the claim that an image is used by courtesy of Next Car is simply a figment of this individual's imagination. Readers can assume that this individual is simply a thief who has absolutely no entitlement to use copyright material from Next Car Pty Ltd. As such, Next Car requests the copyright material be removed from this website."
   
   What are your thoughts on disabling links in the comment section?  It is fair to the writer of the Hub not to be able to showcase the full comment and have the computer note the link was removed?
   
   Should the website address be given?

      Is it me or are you trying to get your hub banned by a DMCA takedown? I know you're "down under" but Hubpages is in the US and will respond to DMCA takedown requests. (For those who do not know, DMCA, or digital millenium copyright act, is the US law which allows copyright owners to request takedown of plagiarized content.)
      
      This has nothing to do with disclosure or appreciation. You are required LEGALLY to remove the picture upon request. Remove the pix, then you can choose to either display the notice or put in a response like "oops, sorry" as you see fit.

   Someone is telling you that you did not have the rights to use the image you used and that you should remove it.
   
   And why would you want to post this comment for everyone to see?

   I find it important to disclose.  I also find it helpful to show that as a writer I responded respectfully right away.
   
   Additionally, it showcases the others (who have better photos anyway) who have graciously allowed their photos (with links but of course).  There are five other sources with fantastic photos - the photos from the site in question are not even missed. 
   
   Yet, I don't wish to give a "link" back to their website since they were not appreciative in the first place but I would prefer to have their whole comment rather than my cut and paste copy of their comment.  Best of both world would be to allow to post the comment and detail the author has removed the links.

      I'm really, really confused. You stole something from them, yet you accuse them of "not being appreciative" when they asked you to stop?

   I think it's more important that you take down their photo as they requested rather than belabor the point about disabling links especially as the comment makes it clear you are violating their image copyright.

      Crediting a copyright owner with a link does not absolve you of copyright infringement.

      I did just that and they still considered it a copyright violation and they are technically correct.

         Well, if they're correct, you have no right to use the photo and you must remove it.  You can't use it. End of story.
         
         As Relache said, crediting a copyright owner does not absolve you of copyright infringement.
         
         I'm not sure I understand the comment, are you trying to be humorous?

   GmaGoldie, if the owner of photography I have used were to disapprove of my use of their photo, I wouldn't hesitate in taking it down. I would also let the owner know that I have taken down the photo and (this is probably just me) apologise for having used it without permission.
   I would do this regardless of whether I had a right to use another person's work or not. It's a matter of respect more than anything else.

   That's why you should use photos of which you own the copyright or that have been released under a free license.
