   I realize Obama can't do anything about what's happening in the middle east but he can and should be doing more here...alas all he's good at is community organizing... maybe he should organize the Libyan protestors and let an adult run the country?

   He's pushing for alternative energy...something that we should have been well into by now. In fact, it could all be free-- Tesla thought so.
   
   But we know what drives Ammurrica---$$$$
   
   You'll notice who is against alternative energy, btw...the entire GOP fundraising component!
   
   If you've been paying attention, that's 7 out of the 10 biggest political contributors...
   
   Going to oil-favoring Republicans.
   
   Obama is fighting a Behemoth of money and psy-op campaigns, owing to GOP tv and radio.
   
   But he is speaking common sense and something that should have been a no-brainer. Ooops, did I just stumble on to truth?? No-Brainer...yeah, that's how the Koch's and their ilk get away with it.
   
   People don't think. They only react.

      Nobody is against alternative energy!! I just don't think the government should decide which alternative is best... as of right now none are too good so why not access the sources we have?

         This is not true - Everybody in the oil industry and the industries that rely on it is against alternative energy that is cheaper, in some cases free.  There is no day after day profit from a windmill,or a water fuelled car.  No profits = active and aggressive opposition.  But if you like to support a system that charges you high prices for your energy every second of every day then that will be ok.

            I guarantee you if someone invented a car that runs on water we'd all be driving them and if windmills made enough electricty we'd all have one. There are reasons we don't and it isn't because the oil companies want to protect their profits... in fact those companies are investing part of their profits on alternative energy.

               They are not serious about alternative energy. Bet you didn't know that the Taliban went to Texas in 1997. Look it up. They then refused to let Unocal build a pipeline to the Caspian Sea and Halliburton investments. Some say that gave Cheney motive for 911.
               
               But the point is, we are fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq for more oil. Oil companies are ruining our country.

               Big oil already has the patents under wraps for water and hydrogen energy so when the crisis becomes more dire they can spring another expensive only choice on us to produce the alternative.
               
               Cheap energy is not in big oils best interest so it will not happen until it becomes impossible to avoid.
               
               Keep electing the same slime that is bought by big oil and the scenario will play right into their hands.

      Dude, you're making environmentalists' point for us. Oil is a finite resource that is used to produce many products that make our lives much easier and in some cases even save lives.
      
      It is extraordinarily selfish and short-sighted to waste it as casually as we currently do. I know people who hop in the car to drive their kids two blocks to a friends' house. That's ludicrous.
      
      Another example: Obama was ridiculed during the presidential campaign for suggesting that we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil by making sure we keep our tires properly inflated. But he was absolutely right. It's estimated that Americans waste more than 1 billion barrels of oil per year by driving around with under-inflated tires. Sure, that's just a tiny fraction of our total consumption, but imagine how many heart valves and hearing aids you could make with a billion barrels of oil...

   Alternative energy has been around before most of you were born.  Big oil companies were not about to give up their grip on the economy and so alternative energy has been blocked, thwarted and lobbied against for years and years.  So peak oil reached it's limit is about 2004 and now the sky is falling Henny Penny, but hey, big oil got rich and getting richer.  To blame a President,then start oh say about 40 years ago or so and every President from then on.  Are you foolish enough to think this is a 'new' idea?
