One More Idea to Improve HubHopping, Plus Another Idea

Since many of us have committed to the process of more frequent HubHopping, in an attempt to help filter out the bad and promote the good, I want to toss out a suggestion that I believe will make HubHopping even more useful.

That is, in addition to the current buttons (Up / Down / Flag / Awesome / Funny / Beautiful / Useful), I would like to see a button that indicates "Good Hub, but needs polishing."

I have seen some Hubs today that were good in content and good in style, but which could really use considerable copy-editing.  They were not so bad that I felt they should be rated down.  But at the same time they could be so much better (and if so, would improve the Hubber's work and improve the site).

What I conceive of here is that the staff would merely pass along to the author a note that says "Other Hubbers recommend additional polishing."  That's all.  The author could act on it or not.

The second idea would be in the Learning Center or in the Help section to maintain a list of the Hubbers who are willing to work as editors.  There are many editors here, some who work on a volunteer basis and some who edit for a fee.

For the Hubber whose work needs a good polishing, it might be worth paying someone to edit and polish 1-2 Hubs, to see what specific improvements would be suggested - since most of us tend to make the same mistakes (or the same kind of mistakes) over and over.  The purchased edit could then serve as a reminder of what should be checked in other Hubs.

This is not quite the same thing as what Len Cannon suggested here: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/68784#post1501469.  I think his idea has some merit too.  Maybe we need to have several paths of help for improving the language in Hubs?

I agree (and am afraid this will go unnoticed in the midst of everything else going on).

Thanks!  You are probably right about whether it will be noticed.  I hope it will bubble to the top from time to time.

I've just been hubhopping again, and that reminded me of this idea that I posted some days ago.  So I wanted to bring it back to see what others thought of it.  When I first posted, everything was kind of crazy around here.... smile  hmm

Make it so only the author sees it. Not for the general public. wink

Of course! I meant (maybe wasn't clear) that the writer would be notified by e-mail about the recommendation. The button would be a way to tell the staff that the Hub had been hopped and that the reader liked the Hub in a lot of ways, but that it needed to be improved in the area of language conventions - grammar, spelling, and word choice, for example.

This is a great idea, I have seen a number of posts recently that have good info and are laid out well, but have a number of small spelling or grammar errors.  I don't write perfectly, but I would love to have somebody point out small errors for me to correct rather than getting my hub voted down for something that can be quickly fixed.
