Help! I need free anti-virus . . .

   My Norton virus protection has now expired and i'm looking for a lite, un-intrusive and safe software compatible with Windows 7.
   
   Any help would be greatly appreciated!

   Microsoft Security Essentials totally free and I been using it for a long time very easy and user friendly. Also not near as heavy as Norton was.

   Check out Avast.  Free versions works rather well.  I use it exclusively for real time scanning

   Avast is ok... but as a Free Anti-Virus kit... I have noticed that it only tends to acknowledge Free Viruses

         Been on AVG, but recently switched to Avira which has the edge.

   Microsoft Security Essential is no doubt an excellent option, but if you get latest Free version of AVG antivirus, then its also not bad option.

   I am using free version of Avast and its is good enough. After reading some of the posts in this thread I would certainly try MSE.

    The best free antivirus in the world is avira antivir personal. It will detect the most latest viruses and malware. Most lite on resources too. A 5 star antivirus. No Infections since i installed it. I have it on every laptop and pc

    I just wrote a hub ranting about Norton and I would say half to three quarters of the people who commented on it recommended AVG, so, the masses have spoken.  That has to be a really good piece of software.

    I used to use AVG and was a huge AVG fan, until my computer got infected with a virus. I switched to AVAST and have been very happy with it. It also seems to be faster (I'm never waiting on it). My vote is for AVAST (free!).

    My vote is AVAST combined with Spybot Search & Destroy.  This has worked just as good or better for me than Norton which I paid for.

    Avg is cool. Avast slows down your computer. Avira is good too. Norton is really bad.

    I also rate Microsoft Security Essentials as the best free security product on the market.  It's not proactive, but it is effective.  AVG 2011 Free is another good free product.  I wouldn't pay for it, however.  If you want paid protection, I vehemently recommend ESET Smart Security.

    A good way to check these programs against themselves are to use the two best independent evaluators of internet security programs:  Virus Bulletin (http://www.virusbtn.com) and AV Comparatives (http://www.av-comparatives.org.  ESET has won more VB100 awards than any other program on the market, and is the only product that has never had a false positive--no other company can say that.
