Should I report?

   If someone is frequently posting comments that are so generic and meaningless ("nice hub, thanks for sharing") and so fast after each other that it's evidently done without reading the hubs, should I report such a person?

      I agree with Nelle. Just let it go. You can say a thank-you, or you can deny the comment. The thing is, there will always be people out there who want to jump on your work to gain advantage for themselves. Don't fret about it. Just move on and write more. And you can do what Misha suggests, too.

         I agree as well. I have several followers who leave a brief reply sometimes, and at other times leave a full reply. I just leave a brief thank you.

      Personally I do not regard this as true 'spam'. This person has taken the time to visit your Hub, leaving you with a 'page view' quite possibly 'bookmarked' your Hub for future reference
      In some 'other places' short comments are acceptable!
      My policy is to answer comments with the same length reply as the comment. Then move on.
      Of course if it is true spam with 'linking' I report it as spam!  As they say 'the only good spam is a dead spam'

   There is a spam button. Use it. Once enough comments from the same person are marked as spam, all their subsequent comments will automatically go to spam. No human intervention required.

   I don't think you have to report. The Hub system will spot him soon enough and either penalize him or block him

   I know what you're saying. There is a hubber that follows me and comments on many of my hubs as I publish them. They don't comment RIGHT after I post the hub so there's a chance that he's read it, but the comments are like: "Great information! Thank you!"
   
   I mean, I can see how that COULD be an genuine comment, but after a while by getting "Nice tips," "Great hub, thanks" it's almost kind of pointless to comment. Why not something like, "I've never been to Montreal, but I have considered it. I didn't know that blah blah blah. Thank you for sharing, I'll have to consider going to blah blah blah if I ever go there, it sounds cool." Although I'd delete this comment too because I don't even have a hub on Montreal, but what I mean is something that kind of touches on something that's in the hub... something more specific than "Great SEO tips. K thanx bai"

   Ok, thanks to everyone for their responses. I agree that it's minor compared to other worries that we can have here at HubPages but I see many hub authors responding as if that user's comments are genuine.
   
   I'll simply use the spam button instead.

   Simeon, I know exactly what you are talking about and it is pretty annoying that this person does it everyday.Such meaningless comments.. I have denied some lately.  I have noticed this on my hubs and while I hop.. Yes it is time to scream spam
