Fixed Landing Page on Wordpress Custom Menu

   Just wondering how I can make the landing page the first link on my custom menu.
   
   Right now my landing page is a simple mishmash of all my posts - I want to make one category my landing page.
   
   Advice appreciated!

      I'm not quite getting what you want to do?
      
      What do you mean by landing page?  Your home page? 
      
      Do you want to change the content of your landing page, or do you want to know how to list your landing page on the custom menu?  They sound to me like two different things.

         Thanks Marisa, I found it, it's under "readings". I just didn't want all my blog posts to come up on the front page. All good now!
         
         Edit: I'm making a proper wordpress site for my wrylilt.com lol

         I found it easiest to make a new page the front or Home page as I could never seem to get proper control of the automatic front page.

   I've been using themes that look like normal website home pages for the home page.
   
   For instance on my tourist site it has a magazine style layout for the home page by default. I find these much better.

      Hey Bill - how do you use a theme page then ?  I guess you mean a page lifted from another theme ?   I want different style pages in different places and can't see how to do that, or maybe I am just not advanced enough yet ?

         Hey there recommend1. I use the Genesis framework with child themes, it's a paid theme. With that you can make any page, even any post look different.
         
         You can make a sidebar on each side of the site, two on the left or right, even full width. Most of the child themes have a home page that looks like a normal website home page.
         
         Check out my tourist site in my profile and you'll see what I mean. I highly recommend the Genesis framework:

            On a side note you can make different looking pages and different sidebars with normal wordpress themes.
            
            You just have to make new page templates and new sidebar templates.

            I checked out your site - is impressive and verrry Disney    you say 'just make' and my heart sank as I thought of hte whole weekend ahead that will probably be spent screwing up style sheets and lines of code that go in on guesswork and trial and error !  Thanks Bill

               Thanks. Yeah making your own pages and sidebars can be a pain. You have to include "call to" functions in your function page or whatever page your theme uses for that.
               
               So every theme is a bit different. That is why I like Genesis so much, it's all done with widgets and very fast. Still takes a bit of learning however. Good luck.

               I feel the same!  That's why I'm wary of any themes that call themselves a "framework".  Often, I find that "highly customizable" means there are so many potential customisations, you almost need to be a programmer to work it out.
               
               The Thesis theme is an excellent example of that - gurus like Sunforged love it, but if you're not technically-minded, it might as well be in Greek. Even Lissie, who's an ex-IT person, got fed up with struggling with Thesis.
               
               To my mind, there's no point in having a theme that has a big learning curve, unless there's a huge advantage (and I've yet to be convinced of that).
               
               I don't know about Genesis - it also calls itself a "framework" which usually means there's a lot of work to set it up.  It does have a money-back guarantee so there is an opportunity to find out whether you can fly the thing before you commit!
               
               There are lots of free magazine-style themes if that's what you want.

                  Yep - I am new at it all - so I got the latest simple basic general theme to work as my starting learning curve -
                  
                  I am about ready to launch myself into the 'next' stage but feel I am suffering from some kind of digital exhaustion and I am going to wait until I feel ready to enter the fray again
                  
                  From my (often funny) battle with it all so far I know to expect to forget the all-important backup moment, even though I have a sign in front of me that says BACK-UP BONE-HEAD !  I know to expect my broadband line to crash at the critical moment, that I will learn to do something mind-blowingly good and then immediately forget where I put it, my header image-making programme will decide to revert to Chinese language at the critical moment and my Mother in law will call in the middle of my most productive day.
                  
                  Magazine format here we come - !
